CF Wireless DHCP Issues

Hi All,

My Ax 400 runs a Linksys WiFi card and I connect it to both my home and office WiFi networks. Both WLANs run DHCP servers with the one at the office working fine with my Ax but the home one doesn't.

The office WLAN is a hardware device (ELSA AirLancer IL-11) whereas my home WLAN is controlled by Sygate Home Network software running through an ELSA AirLancer USB-11).

First time at home, the Ax worked great but ever since then, I get the message 'Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in network settings'. Now my server serves IP addresses and LAN configs out via DHCP to my girlfriend's WiFi PC and my WiFi laptop no problem just not to the Ax.

I trawled through loads of places ont he web and read somewhere about some DHCP clients having problems assigning IP's to Pocket PC machines, no fixes as yet I'm afraid. The way round is to manually assign an IP to your Ax on the troublesome WLAN. I did this and it worked first time.

I can't remeber where I read about the issue (perhaps the symbol forums) but I'm sure I read it was something to do with DHCP caching or some such.

Cheers,

W

Hey Wireless,

Have you tried this:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2867

It may flush any internal network settings cache. I too go between work and home - at work it is static settings, at home DHCP. Haven't had a need to go between two DHCP access points, but I have found that I must pull my WCF12 out everytime I change the network settings to reset it.

From the PocketGear web site:

IP Manager also lets you switch between networks easily. At startup choose between DHCP or a list of static addresses. Each time you enter a new static address, or change your proxy settings, IP Manager gives you the option of adding it to your own database. Just give the new address or proxy setting a description, and it is added to the database. Once you make your choice, reset your Pocket PC and the setting will take effect.

IP Manager allows you to change:

Computer Name
IP address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DNS
WINS
Proxy settings
ActiveSync partner
Use with any standard or wireless ethernet card
