ActiveSync + Internet over wirelss

If you've been able to establish an ActiveSync connection over wireless should you also be able to access the internet at the same time?

I thought ActiveSync would route to the internet if you've connected to it but it doesn't seem to work.

Thanks

Actually, as far as I have seen, you can't do it that way.

To connect to ActiveSync, the last setting in Connection Manager has to be set at "Work." To get to the Internet, the last setting must be set to "Internet Settings."

Now, if we can only get a Connection Manager that makes sense......

You can do both, but it is a pain to do it through the "pass through" in ActiveSync. If you can sync wirelessly, just connect to the internet using a router or hub on your local LAN. If you do not have such, then configure your desktop PC for internet connection sharing and use it as a gateway. Then your Axim can connect directly to the internet without using ActiveSync.

is there a way to sync with active sync without changing the "my network card connects to: Work" cause that is really annoying. I wish you could just put in the IP of your computer that has active sync on it and it would sync over any internet connection. Anybody know if that is possible?

Pocket Hosts allows you to edit the static host name to IP address mappings on a Pocket PC. This is the handheld equivalent of writing a HOSTS file on your desktop PC. Also includes versions for Handheld PC 2000 devices and X86 emulation environments!
pocket hosts

I believe this will do what you want....

You can sync over the internet if you first establish a VPN connection to the network where the desktop PC you want to sync with is connected.

If you just want to sync over WiFi with a direct network connection (Axim and desktop PC both connected to same LAN) then you can do that by simply entering the machine name or IP address of the desktop PC you want to sync with.

See this tutorial for more info:

I use pocket hosts and it works just fine.

You need your computer name (the one you are syncing too) and the IP address of that computer.

BTW you can set up multiple hosts so you can switch between networks.

Work smashingly, all you then need to do is open activesync on the ax and switch between the computers you are syncing to under options.

could you explain a little more about pocket hosts before I install it to my ppc. So this would allow me to sync using any internet connection whether it be on my network or not, correct? What connection settings would I have to change? Thanks
