Axim & Nextel Phone

Has anyone hooked up their Nextel Phone to their Axim yet? And which accessories did you need to hook the two up?
- OEM In Line Data Cable ?? (nextelonline.nextel.com)
- OEM USB Data Cable with Charging Capability ??
- OEM Universal PDA Adapter ??
- Data Cable from thesupplynet.com ??

I don't know if you are using dial up or package stream gold.
I have gotten it to work but only with the serial nextel cable. However, somewhere on these forums there is a company that makes a cable either for the I 90 series or I 1000 plus series Nextel phone that plugs into both units directly and it it also is serial. These cables came out just after i got my serial syc cable from Dell. Of course you should still get it if you have an external gps unit like i also have. If you decide to do it my way you only need from Nextel the serial data cable for either of the above cell phones, a null modem adapter from Radio shack, and Dells sync serial cable. I am also on msn messenger as philmeup2 and generally on line.

So that means I don't need the OEM In Line Data Cable from nextelonline.nextel.com and the Data Cable from thesupplynet.com??

The customer rep. steered me wrong then... I was wondering why she told me I had to purchase 2 cables?!?!?

There is an excellent chance the rep doesn't know about the Gomadic product line. Be sure that Gomadic carries the cable for you specific phone though...

I just purchased the one for the i80s and it should be coming in the mail in the next day or so. Do I need to find some dial-up service and use my phone that way? Or will it use the Nextel internet service I have with the phone? If it uses the phones services, does it connect to the internet like you would with the USB cradle? Thanks for the info!!!!

Hey guys I am new here and have a question...

I just got my Axim and also have a nextel phone, I have wireles internt thru the phone but it isnt dial up I jsut have the premium package with 2way texting and wereless web thru the phone...

I have to purcase the package stream gold and or the dial up for this to work with this cord?

Nextel told me that if you purchased the Messaging Package, you could hook up your PDA to your cell and access the internet (unlimited amount).

The Messaging Package includes:

Thanks for the www.gomadic.com link. Will have to get my cable there. My data cable is still being manufactured and will not ship till 17 March. Which totally sucks!!! Guess I'll have to cancel my order at thesupplynet.com. Thanks again!

Sucks also that I gotta return my nextel data cable too. Yeesh! Those customer reps are really something. Hope the Nextel store takes these back?

I use my Gomadic cable to connect to Motorola v60i phone on the Alltel network. I have different connections setup on my Ax - one for connect to AllTel's AXCESS web service ( the one that can be browsed from the phone ) and I have one that will dial my office ( like an ISP ). Basically, with the cables you can treat your cell modem as a modem and dial where-ever you choose...

I have a question. I just recieved my cables today. I have the Nextel i80s, and have spoken with Nextel to have the analog/digital enabled in my phone. I have a cable modem so I don't have an ISP to dial into. I created an account at www.feeinternet.com with netzero. Do I set the phone number up in the Axim's connection? Or do I call the number with my phone and setup the Axim another way? How exactly are you connecting? Can you kinda give a walkthrough? It would be much appeciated. Thanks :rolling:

I got my data cable from gomadic.com last nite and didn't get a chance to try it out until now... Do you just hook it up and the Axim knows how to use it and the Nextel cell?

Isn't there some kind configuration needed?

I tried using AIM and MSN Messenger and it doesn't see the connection at all.

Any ideas where I'm screwing up?

you need to have the data feature enable with nextel, in order for it to work...its an extra 15.00 charge...per month

I know that, I had that added. I need to know if the Axim gets all the info (phone number,etc.) and you don't do anything with the phone except connect it. Or is there something you need to configure or setup on the phone other than call Nextel and add that package? Does it need to be alreay connected to the internet? or just waiting like normal? Thanks
