How do I sync with laptop at work using cradle or wireless and then sync with desktop at home? Is this possible?

You can sync with more than one PC - all except for email. You must install ActiveSync on both desktop PC's and then create partnerships on each. Then in ActiveSync on the Axim, you can select which PC to sync with from the "Tools" menu.

Will I be able to do a wireless sync on the home pc since I do not have an extra cradle? What are requirements on the home pc to enable a wireless sync?

You can absolutely sync wirelessly at home. I never use my cradle at either location since I have WiFi at home and at work. You can enable lan connectivity in ActiveSync on either desktop and then sync by selecting that machine in the "Tools" menu in ActiveSync on the Axim. See this tutorial I wrote:

THe only thing you should have to worry about is to establish the initial partnership, you need to have a hard connection (not wireless) to the PC you want to sync with. After that, you are good to go....
