I have Windows XP & an Axim X5 with PPC 2003. On my XP I have Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus 2003. My problem is that I have to disable my Firewall to be able to sync wirelessly. How do I make Norton Firewall stop blocking connections in this way? I just need the buttons I need to push, etc...Thanks everyone!
If your router/base station has a firewall, then you don't need to use Norton Firewall. Also, XP SP2 has a new firewall built in that allows you to let certain functions pass (like wireless network connections). I use the XP sp2 firewall along with my router firewall. I've disabled my Norton one. Hope this helps a little.

Okay...I have the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Bradband Router. I'm new to this wireless stuff, so I didn't know that some routers have firewalls in them. How do I know? Can you tell me if I have a firewall? Perosnally, I don't think mine does, maybe?!?! :)
Oh, well I'm not familiar with your router. Do you have the manual that came with it? It may mention the firewall.
Anyone else, please jump in to help.

Routers usually have NAT firewalls. I use a US Robotics router and have the NAT firewall turned on and also run the ZoneAlarm firewall. I have no problems syncing wirelessly with my PC.
Are you sure it's the firewall causing the problem? - firewalls are primarily concerned with internet access and when you sync with your PC you are not attempting to access the internet, you are just accessing your local network.
Your WiFi card needs to be setup to connect to "Work" - click on Settings/Connections/Wireless Ethernet and chose Work from the drop down list under "My network card connects to:".
If your router has MAC filtering enabled then you will need to use your routers setup utility to define the WiFi cards MAC address in the allowed list.
Can't think of anything else without more info on what error messgae you're getting. Try these suggestions and good luck.
Actually, the firewall on the PC has no idea where the attempted intrusion is coming from, whether it's inside your network or from the web unless you specifically tell it that it's OK to allow certain computers access.
Gdsykes,
If you want to use the firewall, check the "Cannot Sync Wirelessly" section of the Troubleshooting section of the WiFi Guide linked from my signature. It describes the ports you'll need to open and the program you'll need to give access to. On the other hand, I don't bother with any PC level firewall since NAT is installed on my router (and I'm sure it's on yours. It's been standard on home use routers for several years). You should enable security, probably WEP since you have the X5.
Oops, I see the html isn't working in my signature - try here for the troubleshooting section.

Thanks for the reply. One more question, if I may. So, if I have a firewall in the Router would I need Norton Internet Security? (Would I even need to have a firewall on my computer?) Thanks guys!
Greg
No, if you have a firewall in your router, you don't need to use another firewall. Just make sure you've got one before you disconnect NIS.

Cool, Thanks...I use Norton Firewall..And sometimes if I get some type of intrusion it alerts me. What does the router do? Anything? or does it just block the "intrusion" without telling you?

It just blocks it. Make sure its on my going into a web browser and typing http://192.168.1.1 and if you havent used this before the default password is admin and there is no username. Then click the security tab to make sure that it is on.

I've contacted Linksys and they said my router has a firewall, which I already knew, but they said it doens't have Norton AntiVirus, so I think I'll be keeping NAV and delete the firewall. Do I need to install NAV on all my computers in my network, or will it work protect all my computers if it's just installed on the main computer? (I have my Axim and another computer connected to this router) So, NAV on all the computers or just on one? I contacted Linksys, but they wouldn't give me a definate answer.ha ha...
