WiFi Troubles

I'm trying to connect on my WiFi Network at work, I can recieve a signal on my laptop using a d-link USB wireless network adapter, connecting to a Linksys Wireless Access point 2, I am using the Dell TrueMobile card, and Installed Boingo sniffer, and it shows the network periodically but when I try to connect to it, it says unable to connect.

Help!

Have you tried uninstalling the Boingo sniffer and see how your network access is then?

Yes. I tried it first without Boingo

here's the deal.

I can be right next to the access poiint, and it doesn't connect. But I can also stand right next to my laptop with the usb adaptor and the laptop connects fine but mine will not connect..

It's obviously a problem with my unit and not the access point.

Have you set up a static IP on your Axim or are you trying to let something set a dynamic IP for you?

When I was first setting up my Axim, the device asked me if I had DHCP or wanted to manually set my IP's. I tried to use the DHCP and it didn't seem to work.

At this point I didn't know which of the 4 drivers to set the properties for, so I though each driver and manually set all the IP's.

That worked.

Then, when I started setting up my wife's Axim, I new the IP's ahead of time, and set it up with a static IP. That one worked as well, so I went into my Axim and removed all the IP's from the other drivers it didn't need.

The "Dell Wireless Network Driver" is the one that needs to be set.

I don't know if this will solve your problem, but it's what I had to go through to get my WiFi to work.

This is really starting to aggravate me. I can see a peer-to-peer network from across teh street but it won't see my WAP!

The message I get when I use the boingo sniffer, and I try to connect to the other p2p network, (which is open btw, is my boss's personal network across the street) it tells me "Unable to Connect to Signal.

ugh

try this

this happen to me too, i am using the dcf-660w 802.11b from dlink, i also had the boingo sw on my axim, so i could sniff out access points, i thought the boingo sw was blocking me from accessing my wireless network at home, but i kept playing with the card and finally it detected the network, i also tried a cold reset, make sure its setup to get an ip dynamically and you donot have a static ip on their, unless you specified one with your dsl router, keep playing with it....i think its some glitch with some of the wi-fi card.....dont know.....

Ok

Basically this is what I have...

(2000 Network)
|
|
(2000 Server)
|
|
(D-Link Router)
|
|
(Linksys Wireless Adaptor)
|
|
(Axim)

I've tried every myriad of settings to get it to connect, it will momentarily see the Linksys WAP, but then it disappears, and this happens when I am 1 foot in front of it.

I have basically the same problem with the linksys wcf12-it sees the network fine, but no matter what I set the ip or web at, it wont connect-so far have gone through four linksys techs..

For what it's worth, I have a DLINK DCF-660w (used both with the DLINK driver first and now with a generic Prism chipset driver) and have connected to both my home (Netgear MR314 wireless router) and work (DLink DWL 900AP+) wireless LANs. The only real trouble I had was when both networks were set to use different WEP keys and the DLINK driver wouldn't remember two different keys for two different WLANs (well, at least I couldn't get it to remember them!) so I disabled WEP and set up MAC filtering instead (BTW - does anyone know of a way to sniff MAC addresses from a wireless LAN without being allowed on that WLAN? - I'm concerned that I might have lowered the security of my two WLAN's - not that WEP isn't pretty weak to begin with...)
Anyway, any other connection issues I had were related to issues with the SSID (typo, lower case vs. upper case, etc.) and some IP addresses being a little to persistent where DHCP is concerned (I have different scopes at work and at home) but a little release and renew solved those issues. Once I've connected, I've never had "drop off" issues - even when using various sniffing software, etc., though I haven't tried boingo.

Not that you want to buy a new card at this point, but you can get it from Amazon for $49 after a $30 rebate...
