axim, sprint and merlin c201

I have sprint and am not sure whether to buy the yiso cf modem or the merlin c201 pcmcia modem. I will have to get an adapter either way as I want to use it for my laptop and pda

What do you suggest?

I just bought the Yiso CF card from Sprint (179 with $50 instant rebate) I have been very impressed. It comes with the adapter for your laptop. I am getting excellent bandwidth in the Virginia/DC area.
Only drawback is using the battery pack when using the card in the Axim. I am wondering what happens if I use it and draw off the Axim's power. The manual warns against it.

I have also used it as a phone just for fun and it works great.

Is this the PCS Connection Card™ (CF 2031)?

Yes, its the CF 2031 listed on the sprint web site. I actually found a store in Va. Beach that had it in stock.

CF2031

the Cf2031 card gives you the flexibility if using in both the Axim and your laptop. The merlin card is basically for laptops.

I have 1 and it's great. i used it for calls and have a great plan.

With this card, you don't need a seperate cell-phone, right?

Can you just have a regular Sprint plan (no 'Vision'), and surf thru an ISP like NetZero?

Can you synchronize Pocket Outlook directly with Yahoo (notepad, addresses, calender, and mail)?
Thanks.

No need for a separate phone unless you want to. i use mine all the time. PCS Vision cannot track usage. So they chrage u $40 a month for data and voice.

Sprint will probably switch u 2 vision. I had PCS Free 7 clear and they switched me. i didn't ask. They just did it.

I don't think yahoo alows you to access w/ POp3. in fact they don't. I used outlook express for my hotmail and verizon emails. Yahoo charges 4 this now. But if you have address info in your outlook address book. it will sync that into you Axim

Well, the kid at the Sprint store told me otherwise (over the phone). I hate being 'messed with'. So is the $40/month unlimited minutes? I am also looking at T-mobile@Starbucks-Coffee (unlimited surfing for $30/month, but I don't know what is out there for PC-phone usage these days).

what did he tell you?

I know the rates just increased. I have $30 for 3 months and then $40 after that for unlimited data and 300 minutes 4 voice.

I did what every 1 else did. We bought it at the stiore and activated when we got home. They pull up the information about the card etc etc. But she started out saying that I would have 2 use the data aplan, but then said oh wait. this can go under pcs vision. i didn't prompt anything. i was prepared 2 say that my friends have the plan, but there was no need. she gave me the same plan as them.

Since u have 14 days 2 return it, buy it and try 2 get the plan. if they don't give it 2 u, return it 2 the store.

I do know, that maybe Sprint is catching on. We pay $10 4 vision b/c they cannot track it. They only can track how many times I connected. and even that's not right. My invoice online says I have used 17 minutes. And usually my calls last about that. But I'm only it everyday for alteast 2 hrs.

Sprint's ducks are running loose all over the place. They try and get too fancy with the marketing, and it just confuses the issue.

If you surf to their 'plans' page, you will see that the 'phone-vision' plan has icons for e-mail, and web, and all kinds of stuff. Why the 'data plans' are seperate is beyond me and beyond everyone at Sprint too, apparently (I just got off the phone with them). Anyway, if you get the data plan, you are charged $.20 a minute additional for phone calls. I think that I'm going to try T-mobile. Personally, I'm too abstract, and cannot deal with dog-and-pony shows, no-matter where they are found.

Yeah. That sums them u p pretty much. that's why i said don't pay attention 2 their data plans. it's for the laptop cards and not this 1. The screwed themselves personally b/c they refer 2 the CF2031 as a phone. and not a modem. So they have no choice but 2 set it up as a phone. that's my personal opinion.

i went thru the same thing u are. Looking at sprint, at & t wireless, tmobiles smartphone, and the toshiba 2032. The Axim is better than all of them. So I decided 2 try out Sprint. And I'm loving it. Especially when i want 2 veg out on my laptop

Well, I've calmed down (a little). I like your idea of just getting the card and the account, and just see what happens. Asking does no good. I'm selling an HP Jornada 720 (a very nice machine with an operating system that is phasing out; CE 3.0.. I loved the built in 3/4 keyboard), and then will get the Axim, unless anything comes up before then.

Hey Eric,

That's what worked 4 me and my boss. When we called, we got the same song and dance as u. oh it's data, yada yada.

So on his suggestion and his person whom he learn this from. Was 2 gjust buy and activate at home. Give you EN number and they will take it from there. i was prepared 2 fight b/ c I know 2 people who have done this and i saw their bill. And I did it myself.

all i can say is just try it. There is another posting of this card on this forum. Look at that as well. there have been a few of us. If you search for Cf 2031 in this forum. it will bring up 2 topics. 1 is this 1, and the other is filled with a couple of us who use the Cf2031 and dell method
