Mapping a Network Drive

I have Resco Explorer 2003, and cannot seem to map any drives from my PC. I've checked and double checked the IPs and subnets, and all the scanner shows is its own drive. That doesn't help much.

Anyone have any ideas for me?

Do you have any shares set up on your PC for it to detect? Also, is this PC a Workgroup or Domain member?

Everything on my PC is shared, and yes, I've got a workgroup set up.

On mine, it just scans and detects the machines on my network. I then expand the machine names (tap the +), and it reveals any shared folders that are availible to map to. That's really all I have to do.

Wonder if your firewall might be blocking it? I know mean was with zonealarm so i had to make my trusted zone for my X30 IP and now it works.

Currently, I don't have ZoneAlarm enabled, so that shouldn't be a problem.

A positive step, however; I have managed to map my laptops drives. Still no progress on my PC, however. It still won't detect it. I had to change the subnet to .252.0 for the laptop, but it doesn't work for the PC yet... Still trying...

Why are you messing with subnets on a home network? Doesn't the router act as a DHCP server and assign all the information to your Desktop and Laptop?

No, for the Resco scanner, I tried to automatically add my PC as a server. I put in my PCs IP and subnet masks. It doesn't see it even when I do this. That's what I meant, sorry for the confusion.

OK, well, let's see. Are you sure you don't have any type of firewall on your PC? Even a Windows Firewall. I just can't imagine why it won't see it.

There is a command that prevent the viewing of share on a PC. f you are running Windows 2000 or Xp it may be enable by mistake and prevent any broadcasting so you do not see the share. I am at home right now and do not have 2000 or XP to give you the exact command. I will look for this at work tomorrow and send you the exact command. Maybe another member knows the command line to write.

Yeah, thanks! When you get the time, I'd appreciate the info.

And no, Wooch, The windows firewall is not active either. Every security measure that I can think of is off. Zonealarm, XP Firewall, Router Firewall, popup blockers, everything. Unless there's somethig that I just can't see... Maybe if I lock the computer first... I'll try that.

ZoneAlarm has a nasty habit of blocking things even when it's "disabled". That's the main reason why I got rid of it.

What I would suggest you do is open up ZA and turn off it's ability to automatically boot up and load once you turn your PC on.

You might even have to go into Start > Run > msconfig > startup and remove ZA from there. Reboot your system' check to make sure that ZA is not running (ctrl+alt+delete) and then try to connect your Axim to map drives.

Best of luck. :approve:

That's an idea I haven't tried yet. Thanks, I'll see if it works.

Ok. I've turned off ZoneAlarm. I've kept it from booting with windows. I've set my Axim IP in the safe zone. I've even flat out uninstalled the stupid thing. That's not the problem either!

What if you enter your PC's IP address instead of name? Eg. \\192.168.0.5 ? This IP address is just an example.
