Diving off the high Board!

OK, Guys. Wish me luck! I'm going off the high board! Just got my Linksys Wireless router and WCF12 card configured. Now I'm going to try to insert the card and see what happens. Looks like everything I'll need to know has been posted here on the site.

Well, see ya later. Geronnniiimmmmoooo------------

Update: OK! Got the Internet Connection to work. I'm Surfin'!!

Wireless sync much harder. Several days of trying to find Server IP addresses reconfiguring, etc. Still no luck.

Just reading another thread and Doh! It hit me. It's the firewall stupid! Turned it off, reconfigured for DHCP and Voila! Wireless Activesync. Boy, is it ever fast! Still can't get desktop remote control though.. Have XP Home. Looks like SOL on Terminal Services.. Going to try the PocketGear link to the BitWeen software next. I need to control the firewall from my Axim---Don't want to leave it down or run back upstairs all the time to turn it on and off.

I'll update if I get it to work. .....if anybody cares.....no matter, I'm having fun--all that matters.

Shields UP

That link is a free testing service for your network from the Internet. It reports on your security, including port probes for vulnerability.

I posted that site because the firewall in my linksys router provides strong protection to my network without any additional firewall software. I have turned off the software firewalls and A/S works on my system just fine. For wireless security I have changed the SSID, stopped broadcasting it, changed the default password, use MAC filtering and WEP 128bit security, plus I have set DHCP to issue only 4 IP numbers, one for each machine that is connected by wire and one for my Ax wireless.

Just some food for thought.

Thanks, Jake. That's going to be really handy info.
I can now get my Remote Control Client to ping my PC but connection fails. Have to figure out how to add user permission to the server software. The help files that came with the software aren't much help. I'll get the hang of it one day.
For now, I'll just shut the whole business off when I'm not here.

AAAAWWWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEE !
Hope I didn't damage your ears. Pocket Remote Control from BitWeen works great! Got it from PocketGear suggested by a post in the forums here. Trial version is great. $50 for purchase. Hey, I'm buyin. Soon as my Dell rebate check gets here. Took a little while to figure out how to set the server. My McAffee firewall reported an attempt to log on by an outside source and told me what I needed to know. Then found a Remote Control Users Guide from BitWeen hidden under some program rocks. Followed the directions---and WOOOHOOO!
Learned a lot about my Firewall too. I really don't need to turn it off now. It will let Activesync through, too but not much else. I got it to accept my Axim using a special user name and password and tried some of the stuff JakeRich talked about. I'll do more of that later. Right now I'm having too much fun scrolling around like crazy trying to read the PC screens on my AXim. Man, this is great!
