WM 2003 has built-in L2TP VPN capabilites. You might be able to create an L2TP VPN connection in WM 2003 without having to install a 3rd party app. See the link below for more info regarding the WM 2003 built-in VPN features:

http://www.pocketpcmag.com/_top/article.asp?artid=390

Now, how do you configure it? Many L2TP VPN servers require a "certificate" in addition to a user name and password to authenticate. I'm thinking that if you can obtain a cert from your Network admin, you might be able to import it into WM 2003 and then set up a L2TP VPN connection. Found this article on importing certificates into WM 2003:

http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/crtimprt.html

This will be a good place to start. See if any of this info. helps. I'm going to keep looking to see if I can find a how-to on configuring an L2TP client for WM 2K3. I reccomend talking to the folks who manage your VPN to see if they can provide any assistance.

I will say this from experience. We had a test L2TP VPN server @ my company. To connect, I was provided a digital X.509 certificate, which I had to import into Windows XP. I then installed the VPN client that was provided free via Microsoft. That was what i needed. If we can get WM 2003 to do this for your L2TP VPN . . . :)

I know this is an old thread....but I was wondering if anyone could help.

I'm trying to use the built in VPN client on my school's wireless connection. The school uses the cisco client for PC's and Mac's and it requires group authentication. I know the name and the password that is used, but I can't figure out how to enter them in the PPC VPN client (or can you?).

Does anyone know if the PPC built in VPN client allows for group authentication? If not, does Movian?

Sorry if this is vague, I've been trying to get this to work, but Don't know a whole lot about VPN clients. Installing the cisco client on my laptop was a breeze (they have it configured for us :D ).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marc

Actually....I was just looking at the movian website...it looks like I will be able to add a group with movian....I'll give that a try tomorrow...I don't have a sync cable on me right now to install it. Darn, I just noticed it is 75 bucks for Movian!

Here's something useful....GOOGLE. You folks need to stop whining every time you don't get spoonfed. While you're at it, do a search on 'Networking 101'.

Well, how about you use google first????
Because google is NOT helpful!

Anybody successful in finding a FREE IPSEC VPN?
Stupid, stupid Cisco with their proprietary crap!

Propriety=security. I wouldn't call this crap. Yes it makes it hard to get connected. Yes there is alot of people that have the need to connect via VPN on a network but when alot of these things are designed the handheld is not in the thoughts of the designer. So it is up to the users and those that have the ability to write the code for handhelds to make software compatible. I agree with the above post in that alot of people expect all info to be spoonfed to them. They do not want to do the work to research the info. I belong to several different forums, as I'm sure many others do, and they all have the samething in common. How do I do this, where is the manual for this, etc..., . Manuals especially get me, check the manufactures web site. Now if the info that was being sought was researched then asked for that is a different story. Sorry for the rant and I'll step off the soap box now. Hopefully I have not offended anyone.

Here is a couple sites I found on the subject:
http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/...-pocketpc.html
Primarelly Linux & PC but does mention PPC's

http://www.bumc.bu.edu/Dept/Content....78&PageID=8549

http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...c.php?p=160692

http://www.itsphoenix.com/movianVPN_datasheet.pdf

Don't know if any of these will help or not. Hope it does.

Again not helpful.
I already know all about VPN protocols.
This is SPECIFICALLY for IPSEC protocol (e.g. Cisco 3000 tunneling).
The only clients for PPC that I could find were movian and possibly admitone (both of which are just ridiciulously expensive ~$90).
Movian works for me but the trial runs out too fast and downloading the trial is a huge hassle.

Are there any other FREE or CHEAPER IPSEC clients???

(And NO THANK YOU, I do not need another link on how VPN's work, I probably know more about that than 90% of the people in this thread)

Well, AdmitOne has been discontinued, and you can see if Apani makes a client for the Cisco Series ($50. Other than that, I'm not sure what you want to hear. There simply are no other cheaper or free IPSec VPN clients out there.

http://www.checkpoint.com/products/v...nts_wince.html

This client is downloadable.. I wonder whether it's locked into their product or whether it works with IPSEC-only connections. It's a shame that WM2003 doesn't have an IPSEC-only VPN option. Bah!
