Does anyone know of any free ipsec VPN clients? I know of admitone but its not free

let me check my archives... had a client i was using for a while but my pockettop blew my rom today and i have to rebuild.... i'll try and get back to you later tonight or tomorrow(3/11) think it was from citrix or ms

I'm no expert at this so my explanation might not be entirely correct. But as far as I understand it. VPN = Virtual Private Network and IPsec is just a protocol under VPN. VPN is often used as a security measure to allow someone to access the network. Essentially you run your own private network over the Internet or air as in the case of wireless. Did that make sense? :p

VPN creates a secure(highly encrypted in most cases) network connection from point a to point b, mostly over the Internet. This allows companies to reduce network cost for employees who travel alot, but can also be used for people who telecommute from home. Special Hardware/Software is required to do this.

The Hardware side of it can do most of the encrypting/decrypting.(Cisco VPN Concentrator or a slew of other vendors hardware.) It's made/programmed especially just for that. This also costs $$$$$'s. Some software solutions require use of the PC in some cases to do all the encrypting/decrypting.(Linux for example.)

Of course this usually requires other hardware to secure or lockdown your network. Firewalls, Routers, etc. You don't have to, but it's a very good idea, especially for businesses.

Thats just a very broad description. There is so much more to go into, but I won't bore or confuse you with that.

I too am looking for a free Ipsec VPN client for pocket pc since my school had to be stupid and use a cisco vpn gateway that only uses ipsec, and I don't feel like paying for movian.

zyzzyva100. I'm in the same boat, my school has to use cisco vpn to log in to the university internet access. I've tried movian, but it didn't seem to work with my network card, it would just ask me which modem it should use and since I had none, it wouldn't connect. If you want, I can give you the trial version of movian, I have it on my computer. just e-mail me or message me on one of the IM services

I already have the trial version of movian, thanks though. My friend and I are sooo close to getting it to work. What kind of CF network card do you have. I have a netgear card in the mail, and a guy down the hall from me has a symbol card, so we are gonna try every combination we can.

Movian works for me but I don't feel like buying it just because my stupid school requires this stupid Cisco crap.

IPSec is a "language" of VPN. It's actually BETTER than PPTP which is why more and more corporates use it.

Cisco IPSec VPN is hardly "crap".

You shouldn't need to use a Nortel specific client. Movian will probably work with that too...

I did not know that . . . To be honest, I haven't even searched for VPN clients for my Axim. I'll check out Movian . . .
