Problems with Proxy Settings

Hi, I just got my Axim X30 and I can't go on the internet. After reviewing notes here on Aximsite, I can't find a solution for my problem.... My connection will not setup proxy server... When I try to put a "check" on "This network connects to the internet" (under Proxy Settings) tha Axim will no save the change after I press on OK. I really think that my problem is that I can't get proxy settings... CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Make sure that your Wireless card it set to work, & not internet. Then, go back into your network settings, & make sure that both connections are set to work, and enable the proxy box for both. Hope this isn' toot confusing :)

LOL, well, are you onnected to a network that has a proxy server? Also, if it is finding the proxy, it should prompt you for your authentication credentials . . .

Well... at this time, Im connected to my home wireless network. I have a linksys wireless router. My PC does have a connection but the Axim does not connects to the network and does not allows me to visit web pages. I did a Hard Reset just in case I have messed up something on the software but it just does not work. I read that it was suppoused to be an easy... just turn on my wireless and start checking mail/etc.... One note: when I click on the green bars at the buttom of the screen, I show:........ CLient:Ready, the netwook name, connection channel etc everything seems to be working. The only thing is under Encryption: WEP Encryption is shown. I don't have encryption enabled neither on my Axim nor on my wireless router. One more thing I can't turn off power management... I click on "off" but it will just not turn off!!... Again thank you

Edmond, your profile says you have an X5 but this sounds suspiciously like an X30 problem. If you have an X30, you should install ROM A05 so that you can disable the powersave in the wireless. Alternatively, you can get SilentKnight’s utility for turning off the powersave. If you do have an X5, what CF card are you using? You should get vxUtil to confirm that you are getting a valid IP and DNS.

kehiker... thank you for responding. I have not change my profile. I received my X30 4 days ago so, yes, I am talking about an X30!!!...With that in mind, should I still get "vxutil" or this is just needed for X5? For now it seems that it is working but the web searching takes too long (my Axim X5 was faster at 400's Mhz and with a CF network card) now I have an X30 at 600Mhz and it is way too slow... it is just not searchable. On top of that, very often I receive a message stating that "my connection is taking too long... if I would like to retry" sometimes it just not loads web pages. Any suggestions.
THank you

Edmundo

WiFi not working

Well I am back. I can't make my WiFi to connect. Can someone direct me towards a step by step configuration. The manual is bad. Sometimes, after several changes, it will load a web page but again it will be extremelly slow and for one page-no more-. But after turning WiFi on and off, the problem comes back! Same situation for my POP mail.
Thank you

Edmund, sorry, I missed seeing your last post on the 25th. You probably don’t need vxUtil but you should check to see if your X30 has the latest ROM (A05). If it does, turn the PowerSave feature off in the WLAN utility. If it has an earlier ROM, either upgrade or get SilentKnight’s utility I pointed to above.

I've noticed a few threads about issues with A05. Since I don't have an X30, I haven't been looking at them but you may want to see what problems people have had. I just know it was supposed to fix the powersave problem.

I keep reading to set it to work not internet. Does anyone know what the real difference is? When would you use it set to internet?

"The Internet" (now listed as "My ISP" on some pages) is typically used when you are using some form of dialup directly to your service provider while "Work" is for a network connection such as you typically use with a wireless connection. The exception is if you are actually using a Proxy server in which case you do use "The Internet" or "My ISP" as the choice.
