In the Bluetooth Manager - make sure that not only is the device paired, but also that it is set up as an "ActiveSync Partner" - this makes a world of difference.
Once that is done, from the "Today" screen, click on the Bluetooth Icon and select "Start Activesync" - should work, let me know if it doesn't (and I may end up posting another tutorial on this, also).
Now, BUMMAX - It depends on what you want to do. For Bluetooth, if you want mobile connectivity, you need a phone that has Bluetooth functionality, and also has an "internet connection". If you want to dial into any regular ISP, you'll need to get a CompactFlash Modem (they still sell these) - but that will work just like a 56k connection on your computer would.
HTH,
Nick

Here goes mine.
"Gomadic PDA-to-Phone cables are for wireless internet anywhere you have your cell phone and your Pocket PC. They maintain that you need no extra software and that you can use your cell phone minutes and your ISP to get online quickly and easily." That what i want to do is that but with out the cables.
I want to know if bluebooth can sync my AXIM to my bluetooth enable cell phone. So i can dial-up a ISP using my phones min or I have to pay for wireless inter like "Verizon Data Networks" that run at 140k. Speed is not need when the needs are to check email and chat. Im ok with 14k connection.
here is my plan:
dial-up ISP from my college = free
CF Bluetooth card sync to cell phone= wireless
get online of the cost of my phone mins.

You must make sure that you have a data or wireless internet service activiated with your cell phone account with Verizon or whatever cell phone carrier you use. Once you have this, it depends on the kind of cell phone you use. If it has bluetooth or infared enabled on it, then you can use that to connect to the Axim for a wireless connection or use that Gomadic cable or a wired connection.
Next, you must set up your axim to dial your isp. If you want to use your cell phone minutes you must set up your axim to dial up whatever isp you use like a modem. This means that you must have a Phone Number to your isp. Then go into connections and setup a connection to your isp's phone number and that you want to use either the infared port or bluetooth as your modem.
Again, you must make sure that you have some kind of wireless internet or data call service activated on your cell phone plan for this to work.
Currently, I'm using the infared port but will upgrade to bluetooth very soon and can connect to the internet using either my cell plan's minutes or GPRS without any problems.

Thanks for the tutorial - I've been struggling for a couple of days but light is beginning to dawn!!
One question - how much of the rigmarole do you have to go through each time you want an internet connection - I seem to have to go through the whole process of discovering devices eery time, whereas with my bluetooth headset the phone (T68i) seems to remember it OK.
Cheers
One question: You say to make sure that you've got your phone plugged in as using bluetooth drains the batteries.. does this make it impractical to use my T68i on the road with an Axim for mobile internet?
I mean, if I have to leave the phone plugged in (as you suggest) doesn't that defeat the whole point?
Thanks, andsoitgoes. With a few modifications to your tutorial, I was able to get my Nokia 3360 connected to my local ISP using the Ird. Speed was not too bad either. Using my Dell keyboard, I was effortlessly able to chat on MSN, surf the net, check email etc. Now I am working on a small modification to hold my cell phone in place.
