The hotspots in Borders are usually run by T-Mobile, so they are not free. I have yet to find a free hotspot anywhere :-(

Most places that have free wifi proudly display so as it is a way to attract additional business.

The easiest way to find out....ask the employees.

Can you just fire up PIE and browse the net when a free hotspot is found? Is it as simple as that?

Depends on how it is set up. Some require that you login, etc. Also, you do not just "fire up PIE", you fire up wifi and THEN PIE, but I'm sure that's what you meant... ;)

I found free wifi at many places here in Clearwater FL

As mentioned eariler, alot of places are advertising free wifi. The Rally gas station and food whatever down the street from where i work has free wifi. One day I went through the car wash and just turned on my tablet pc and at the bottom of the screen it popped up an icon stating "Rallys 133" and bingo! I opened IE and was surfing while getting a car wash. I then tried the x50v and the same thing. I don't know if anyone else experienced the joy of surfing at a wifi hotspot, but to me it was really cool. I know that PCWorld has a free wifi hotspot guide somewhere on their site. I don't have the site oops found it. Go to here and click your country, state, and city and you can find some local hotspots to try out. Hopefully they are free to test your new Axim.http://intel.jiwire.com/ hopefully this can help. Dan

Two quesitons:

1. Is there a software program that will help you find hotspots?
2. I find PIE difficult. Pages are two wide (scroll left/right) or if you set view to one column then it is all weird. What does everyone use? Is there a plugin for PIE or a different browser?

I've used "PocketWinc" and it's a pretty good program... only problem is that you have to buy it :-(... so, I stopped using it. Basicly, I'm poor, so I can't afford 30 bucks for a program like that... But, what it did was seek out a hotspot and connect you to it, and it did it all by itself. Great app. If there's a freeware app like it, I don't know...

Just turn on your wifi , open the wireless lan utility and go to site survey. It will list all available hotspots (SSID) in range and how strong the signal is. You can keep hitting refresh if you are war driving.

andf WELCOME to Aximsite.... Both of those spots are TMobile Hotspots, payable on a daily or monthly basis. A lot of independent coffee shops have freespots (Panera Bakery for one). A Google search on freespots and hotspots will show you more than you wanted to know about freespots and hotspots.

Another offering for wifi finding is

wifigraph which can be found at:

http://www.freewareppc.com/communica...ifigraph.shtml

Check the developer's site to see which ppc's with which it will work.

I have found free spots to access the wireless net but it says I need to setup my connections. How do I set it up to connect to these free spots.
