Wireless Pocket Access Point - DLink

Anyone seen or used this Pocket Router/AP It is from D-Link and looks pretty neat. I do more staying in hotels then I care to admit and I have been looking for something just like this. Some hotels have wireless, but many are wired with nothing but a network cable on the "desk". Just wondering is anyone had some expierence with this or comments. Thanks~

I don't have that one but I have the Asus WL-330g which works very well. So far, I have only used it as a wireless adapter but I know it also works well as an access point.

Those are both very nice.

Gigi, have you had any issues with the Asus? How is the range on it?

Well, I just got it about a week ago so I haven't had a chance to really try it out. I've also not been to a place where I could use it as an access point (e.g., hotel). However, as a wireless adapter (i.e., on my laptop), I am quite happy with the range. I would say that my range is very comparable to what I can get on my Netgear 814 "B" and Belkin F5D7230-4 "G" routers. This was quite a surprise for me since the reviews I had read of other similar products indicated a very poor range.

3com

I got the 3com Travelrouter last week and have used it twice. It seems to work fine. I have it in the next room over, so through a wall and about 20 feet with no problems.

I am talking of course as a user stand point not a full setup/configuration review. To help member to make a decision before buying. Sorry I put you on the spot but Chris ask me to...

I have the Asus too, but it was a VERY close call between that and the 3com.

The 3com required AC but had a router ans SPI FW while the Asus has no router/fw but can run from USB power, is smaller and is therefore more mobile.

I have the same one as the D-Link.
But mine is from level-one (but looks exactly the same and they are known to be same interior)
I am very happy with the device, it supports WLAN client, Access-Point and Router. It also supports PPPOE and other login types.
On the wireless it supports wep 64, 128, wpa-psk, 11b and 11g.
max address filter and ssid hide.
So anything you would expect from a big guy :-)
It comes with two powersources, one for 110-220 volt and one usb power cable.
see here: http://www.level1.com/products3.php?sklop=8&id=540514

about the range. It seems to be not as good as routers with external antennas, but I did not expect it to be.
But I am quite impressed of the range of it anyhow.
Its major power is the flexibility.
I use it quite often to bring my notebook into a network while I am on a trip. The routing function is nice to connect 2-x notebooks pretty fast.
Dont trust the manual in all terms, it says that the ethernet is not autosensing, but it is :-)
So I am really satisfied and paid about 68 euros for it. (special bargain price)
