Wireless network antennas on wireless networks - NOT AXIM

First of all sorry that it's not Axim related but I know that you guys are so good that you can probably help me out with a problem. I bought wireless PCI card for my desktop but it had no antenna so I got it cheaper. It's a Belkin and I was wondering if anyone knew what would make a good improvisation (hopefully using speaker wire). Thanks,

I have a DLink PCI Wireless card and found that it worked just as well with the antenna off. :) It's actually off right now, I can see it sitting on the floor next to the case.

Np idea how you'd make one from speaker wire. I would consider just buying one if you need it. :)

It's just ive put a peace of speaker wire in and it makes the pick up better I just want to know whether it needs both pieces to be connected or just one and to where. It has a pin in the middle and a threaded ring around it.

Buy a proper antenna. There're only $10 or so if you check the deals. (Try Fry's or CompUSA.)
Trust me, I have a burn on my thumb because I was connecting an antenna to a modified Netgear MA111 and I managed to accidentally touch the connector with the power on. (RF burns hurt a *lot*.)
If you do improvise, cover all exposed wire connected to the center conductor with plastic so it can't be touched by accident.

I've managed to make one but I didn't get any burns. Thanks for your help.
