sudden PIE shut down

Hey everyone.

Thanks to the tutorial and some great advice in the threads, i'm connecting to 'hotspots' in my own neighbourhood from my living room!

The signals are poor at best so connection speeds aren't great, but some days they are quick (why?)!

My question, every once in awhile when i'm surfing, for example this forum, i get a pop up that says 'do you want to continue loading this page?' to which i click on the 'OK'. For the most part it continues, but on occasion PIE will just shut down. Throwing me onto the Today screen and forcing me to restart PIE and re-surf to the site i was trying to load!

Is this due to the poor signal and possibley dropping off the network or is it PIE not able to handle loading certain things so it just 'gives up' and shuts down, or is this an issue with my x50?

Thanks for the help (past and present!)

Most likely, your problem is caused by a particular website. Websites containing Java often tend to shut down PIE without notice. To be sure it's not just your Axim, you might want to post which sites cause you trouble.

First off, wireless is a shared bandwidth, similar to cable internet. The more people on it, the slower it goes.

Secondly, the messages you're seeing are related to functions in pages that PIE doesn't support. Stuff like ActiveX plug-ins that would normally download into desktop IE, or java stuff, etc... I'd imagine sometimes you're running into stuff that PIE just choked on, and it shuts down.

I've never seen that popup here. PPCT yes, here no. What page here were you on with that popup?

i've had the same problem before. Actually several times. last timeit occured trying to download something from a ppc freeware site. My guess is that it chokes on some code and crashes. Since I have the same prob, i'd say it's not your specific ppc but a PIE prob. Anyone know if Opera will do a PPC version (free?)?

thanks for the quick responses!

i get the pop-up on PPCT also...when here it was in the forums here. not on the front page or news pages. I've had PIE shut down on me in the forums of both places, but not always.

Would using MultiIE or PIE Plus or any of the other 3rd party IE replacements solve this problem?

I've heard that there is a PPC version of Firefox coming (MiniMoz i think was the name) which i'd love to see as i use Firefox on all my desktops.

i get that too whenever i go to a site with java or flash or whatever. i have the macromedia flash player for my pda so it'll load the page fine. just when ever i try to go to a new page like if i click a link or push the back button it'll close.

When's the last time you deleted your temporary internet files. Those babies build up quick browsing and postling to forums.

i delete the temp files at the very least before i start browsing...sometimes while browsing (for some reason i'm paranoid about letting them build up too high!)

i have the macromedia flash prog installed too...
