i have done some searches and have since downloaded wifofum...
went driving yesterday and gotta say it was cool to see action points popping up here and there...
now my Q is... what next? hehe i know it sounds silly - but on some of the points found it says WEP (which im guessing means encryption - and others which say none)...
I tried to access the internet and it didnt work..I doubt ill be doing this for long - just something which seems cool...and i'd like to learn what u would do next after u have detected the spots...
It's ok to talk about war driving (the discovery of wireless networks) but let's keep the discussion away from specifics of how to hack into or take advantage of someone elses network due to the gray or illegal nature. Hope that's cool.

thats about all there is to it, you're doing it! You are now have an Associate Diplioma of "War Driving".
Any more than that is certainly outside the scope of this forum, but there is a seemingly infinite amount of information out there on WEP and its strong/weak points for thiose willing to read and add to thier WiFi security knowledge base...
Here's a question. Let's say that some hypothetical Axim owner was war driving and hopped onto a network. Is there any security risk to the Axim owner? For instance, let's say the Axim owner accessed Gmail and put in his password. Could the network owner somehow intercept that?

I came across one last week with an SSID of "Free Web". Always nice to see that.
so if i came across something like this - obviously it would be ok for me to access their bandwidth.. could u point me to a site which teaches me how to do that?
just connect regularly how you would with any other wireless access point. as for not being able to connect, the signal could possibly not be strong enough, or its retarded.
'retarted' being ones that should work, but dont. for example, at my parents house, i can be 20 feet away from the access point, and its working, and i know it has online access, i have 4, sometimes 5 out of 5 bars, and it still does nothing. if i get within about 5 feet of it, it will work though
