Question hooking up a wifi antenna

Is there any way to hook a wifi antenna (eg, "cantenna") to the x50v? I don't see any obvious connector on mine.

Thanks,
Larry

there is no connector to hook up an external antenna...the only way would be to open up the unit and solder in an antenna wire...or get a wifi card that supports a external antenna for the CF port (although i dont remember of any have an external connector port)

I just read a great thread "Wi-fi whereever, Whenever"
It seems this guy has it done.
Or here is my set up: get an Orinoco gold ( it has an external antenna jack) insert the orinoco into a PC-to-CF adapter (available from sycom)
inser the adapter into your ax and connect your cantenna.

My prigles have never tasted so good!

Ok, hmmm, I'm a little confused. I looked at those adapters and I didn't see how this was going to work... Call me thick maybe, but the Orinoco Gold is a PCMCIA card and the adapter you would need would be PCMCIA -> CF (or SD). I didn't see that there. Did I miss something? Well not to mention you're going to need a driver for an Orinoco to WM2003SE, which someone may have put together but does it work with an X50v??? Providing you get a PCMCIA -> CF adapter working.

Right - you need to use a PC Card to CF converter. There are generic drivers that work with the Orinoco card. Many vendors share Wifi chipsets.

I'm going to move this to the Wireless Forum where you'll get more relevant traffic.

Reign, the Semsons CF to PC Card adapter requires no drivers. PM me with your email address and I can hook you up with the the Pocket PC drivers for the Lucent Orinoco Gold Classic card (or rebadged clone), which is the card you want for an external antenna connector.

You simply run a setup app on your PC and it transfers and installs the drivers like a Pocket PC app. You select the driver by going to Settings --> Connections --> Network Cards --> Network Adapters and choose an Agere driver instead of the Dell Axim adapter. Plug in the Orinoco into the Semsons adapter, the Semsons adapter into your CF slot and you're good to go.

Do you think that adapter would work with a pcmcia usb host card. If so it would save like $100 from having to buy a cf usb host.
