Ad Hoc driving me insane.

Ok, got my new x50v... Instead of doing anything remotely cool, I've spent the past 3 hours trying to get internet on the damned thing.

I have a wired router.
I have a static IP for my computer 192.168.0.123
Router IP is (was) 192.168.0.1
I have a Microsoft USB Wifi Adapter.

I can connect wirelessly the axim to my computer. Not activesync, mind you, but just they can connect to the same ad hoc network.

I want internet on the Axim. Tried enabling ICS on the wired LAN card. No go. Says IP in use. I've searched and search and some have said you can't have anything using 192.168.0.1. Ok then. Router set to 192.168.0.99 at this point. Still a no go. Tried setting the IP of my computer back to DHCP. I went to MS's troubleshoot page for ICS and saw to set the local adapter (USB wifi) to 192.168.0.1. That didn't work either.

When doing that though, I get a new popup box instead of outright denial that says "With ICS Enabled, LAN adapter will be set to 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other blah blah You sure you want to enable?" YES. Then I get the error. I check the usb adapter config and it is back to "obtain ip address auto" instead of using the "192.168.0.1" I set it to.

I've tried so many different combinations I don't know what to do. Any tips? I'm about to break down and just buy a wireless router but after spending so much on the Axim and accessories, I'd rather not.

The non-ICS network (ie the one that connects to the router) should be something other than 192.168.0.x. So whether it's 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.99 or 192.168.0.254 they're all the same network. Put all your wired stuff on 192.168.1.x and let ICS use the 192.168.0.x network.

Or - there is also a bridging option in Windows XP. I haven't used it but it's an alternative.

Oh my god I love you! I should've tried that to begin with. Thank you.

I tried to bridge the wifi and lan card buts it didn't do anything. I created the bridge, but still no access for the axim.

But ICS works now, sweet.
