WPA question for the experts

Received a new x50v the other day, and I'm having trouble connecting to my D-Link DI-524 802.11g router via WPA-PSK (TKIP). My wireless network appears in the axim wlan utility, and the signal is good. The the wlan utility asks for the key to connect, and I assume this is the "passphrase" I entered under "WPA-PSK" in the router bios. I've reentered the key numerous times on both ends, but no matter what, the axim perpetually says "Connecting to network", but never actually connects (although once it actually did connect - long enough to surf the web - but after a soft reset, refused to ever reconnect). I can, however, consistently connect using WEP, or with security turned off, but never with WPA. Also, I'm interested in activating MAC filtering, but don't see any options for it in the router bios. Any ideas?

Ok forget the MAC filtering question. The options were right in front of me, I just didn't see it due to marijuana. The WPA question still stands though.

I would not waste my time with MAC address filtering. It is easier to crack than WEP. Windows mobile will not do WPA-PSK (TKIP), you have to use the Odessey client for that. You also do not use the passphrase. You use that on one device to create the key. It will create a hex key and that is what you need to enter.

Not true. I've got WPA-PSK running on two different wireless networks, and my X50v happily connects to both of them with the standard WLAN utility. In fact I've never even opened the Odyssey client.

Well I stand corrected then. I did not even try to use the standard utility, because the Cisco documentation I had said it would not work. It said you would have to use a 3rd party utility, so I used Odyssey. I really do not think I will change, because I really like the Odyssey client.

my first attempt at getting my x30 happy with my WPA was to enter the ip address and gateway info manually. For some reason i was able to obtain an IP address automatically in future attempts.

Seems to be a pretty common misconception. Maybe it really doesn't work with Cisco equipment, I dunno. Works fine with my el-cheapo Linksys and Netgear boxes, though. :approve:

The Cisco documentation I have is dated at the time Windows Mobile 2002 was in use and just before 2003 came out. Maybe 2003 or the second edition update added the feature. I am sure plenty of people were complaining to Microsoft about it. Maybe they really do listen to us users. I think I will keep using Odyssey though, because I have gotten use to it.
