I have had a few IMs about this, so I thought it would be best to post it here.
BTW, the plans confused me at first as well.
The first thing you need to decide is what do you want your phone to do and what you want the PPC to do.
If you have little or no need for text messages, picture messages, chat svcs through your phone, then all you would want is one of the MEdia Net data packages... I suggest getting the Unlimited package for a few months to see what your average data use is, so you do not go over limit and then cut back to save some money.
The 'MEdia Bundles' is a bundle of text messages and picture messages and SOME data, but there isn't enough data if you are going to tether it to a PPC for any real use
Personally, I do not understand the need for text messaging on a phone... it is a phone, use it, speak to a live person. It does much faster communicating to people when you speak words to them.

Wait just a minute here... The "Unlimited" plan has a limit?

no... you get the unlimited plan for $24.99 and run with it for a few months to see how much you use. If you only use 5 or 6 mb per month you can scale back the plan at that point, why pay for the big plan if you don't use that much data.
It is a better method than paying for 8 mb and using 15mb

I use 15MB a night on occasion. I listen to streaming radio. I need an under $30 plan with no limit. t-mobile's been goid to me so far but I hear EDGE networks are way faster. Much more expensive though.

Everywhere but the US is starting to move past 3G.
If I only lived in mainland Japan I'd be set. TV on your phone? That's old school there. They've got video conferencing no less. Portable videophones anyone?

I think Cingular has finally closed the door on those of us with the old 19.99 unlimited data plan who have been using it to connect their PDA's and laptops.
Mine has worked for a year, now won't anymore. Can anyone confirm this? I noticed that Cingular now has specific PDA connect plans...
Has anyone used the Cingular Media Net plan in Europe? I am going to be traveling all over Europe for the next 3 weeks and I was wondering if I could count on Cingular for X50V->V551->MediaNet->Internet conectivity. I understand it is $.0195 USD per K and will be using it sparingly but was hoping to have it in a pinch.
I was actually curious about how much data I had used and went into Cingular yesterday to check on it and i was extremly surprised... My total was over 40Mb for the month, lucky for me, i have the Media Works Package for $25/month and get unlimited internet/text msg/multi-media msgs. I also send/receive a lot of text messages via MSN and yahoo and i'm almost always on AIM on the phone. I also connect up the Axim via BT to surf the net quite a bit as well...
Media Works Package is NOT unlimited Internet (Media Net) according to the Cingular site. https://www.cingular.com/media/media_net_purchase Looks line 5mb MAX then $0.01 per KB. Is the site wrong? Please please please say it is. Did you get billed for the 40mb?

Can anyone else confirm this? I just signed up for the media works package to try (first month unlimited data) but I can't connect right from my x50v. I've done this before and know how to set everything up, but I get a message on my phone that says "Subscribe to GPRS first". GPRS internet works on the phone.
Anyone with Cingular have any input? I'm actually pretty good with this stuff usually.... just a snag I can't work around.

I use my Cingular GPRS connection with PPCs mainly to check e-mail when out of Wi-Fi range. I currently have the $9.99 Media Net 5-MB plan, and it works to connect my X51v, H4150 and hx4705 PPCs to the net through my RAZR V3. I just checked the Cingular site and do see 4 "laptop connect" packages. The following is the description of the 10-MB Laptop Connect plan:
Quote:
10 MB Laptop Connect
Provide secure access to enterprise data and applications with failover, customer defined APNs and customer defined requirements with CCS.
Includes 10 MB, $.006/KB additional. Voice $.40 min. within CPN Footprint, $.69 min outside of CPN footprint. No GPRS Roaming.
