MP3 Ringtones

Is it possible to take a MP3 song and put it on a Motorola V551 via bluetooth with the Axim and have it recagnize it as a ringtone. I have tried that before but I must not be doing it correctly as the phone did not recognize the file type.

Yes, I've done it and it works just fine.

That's weird. Dunno why it doesn't work for you. :(

All I do is right click on the mp3 I want to transfer and send it over to my phone. It seems to go to the right folder automatically.

Other than using a data cable to xfer the file, that's all I know.

When I do this it shows that it starts to transfer but then it dissapears. What should I try to get it to work? Can I email the song directly to my phone?

On the v600, make sure you send to the "audio" folder on the phone. It is likely that your phone is the same.

I put it in the audio folder. I wonder why it is not working. Is there a file size limit?

For ring tones, I usually trim the MP3 down to about 10 seconds. The phone loops the clip automatically.

Sound Forge. But I am sure there is freeware out there that can do the same thing.

If anybody is still wondering I found the perfect program for free!!! WavePad takes the bitrate down (as the phone speaker does not make use of above 80kbps, and it also trims it in the section I want. YAHOO, free ringtones, the songs I want that I could never find.

From the reviews on Download.com, it seems that the saving and other functionality is disabled after 30 days (of not registering/paying). I found and use a different program, called Power MP3 Cutter- it is limited to 60 second clips that you can cut for free, but is perfect for ringtones...

From perusing another forums, apparently iTunes can also cut down the length of audio files, though not in an intuitive way (through 'Get Info' on the song). A plus is that it also converts to AAC (which my phone supports)...guess it's time to reinstall it.

Oops, you can also change bit rate, but through overall iTunes preferences (not customizable each song conversion).
