Bluetooth cradle free activesync assistance

I'm new to this group, so I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but I figured it might help save someone the trouble I went through.....Which was 2 days, Four online Dell chat helpers, 2 dell phone helpers, and 1 call back by another dell "tech expert" who eventually got it working.

I have the Axim x30 and a desktop PC enabled with bluetooth through the logitech dinovo keyboard package. My axim would sync in the cradle but not wirelessly. Ok so now important part.

Using Bluetooth My computer could see the axim & my axim could see the my PC. I could even get them to pair and I followed all of the steps in all the tutorials I had read, but they never mentioned this step. FOR bluetooth ACTIVESYNC THE AXIM x30 IS ONLY MEANT TO SEND ON COM7 & RECEIVE ON COM8. to get this to work I went to my bluetooth places on my desktop and into advanced configurations and to the local services tab, once there create as many new serial services as needed to reach the number 7. Then go to the client applications and create as many com ports as needed to make com8. You can always delete the additional ports if you like. COM7 & COM8 will stay that number.

Then don't forget to go to the activesync utility and go to file, then connection settings and check where it says "allow serial cable or infrared connection to this com port". Then change the COM port number to 7. That's it axim syncd immediately.

I know this sounds like a lot of trouble, but I assure you that in my case there was no other way, and I doubt most people would have the time and the patience to deal with DELL as much as I did.

I had the same problem with the COM's (I had on my PC only COM1 - COM3). After creating COM4 to COM8 this worked for me too. The problem is, that the Axim sincs only with COM8 (for incomming) and COM7 (for outgoing). At least I found this configuratoin on my Axim, so I had to enable the COM7 and COM8 on my PC (WinXP Pro). Anyway, thanks for the tip!

Thanks so much to both of you for your posts. I had to try a couple of variations of the above to get it to work, plus I had to manually active the Serial connection in the "My Bluetooth Places" panel on my desktop for the syncing to start. Your tips saved me hours of grief!

I recently purchased a Belkin Bluetooth adapter. I installed it as per the instructions, and like others, had the same problem for almost a week. The desktop and PPC could "see" each other but would not connect. Then I logged onto this site, got the answers and fixed the problem in half an hour- THANK YOU!! I wished I had checked out your thread earlier.
