VPN Network acess doesn´t work!

Hi,

i want to acess to the VPN Network with my brandnew X50v at my university. But it won´t work! I read lots of posts here dealing with VPN but i´m not able to fix the problem!

The point is, i can connect to the VPN with username and password but when i´m trying to check my emails or using the internet the connection brakes down. Why? Are there any secret options i have to use? Any checkboxes i did not see?

Thanks for your help!

Make sure any IP addresses used at the VPN site are included in the "Exceptions" list in Connections/Advanced. When you use those addresses, it'll automatically look to the VPN instead of a local network. If you don't do this, anytime the Axim tries to make a connection to a numbered IP (x.x.x.x), it'll drop the VPN connection and search for the IP locally.

Hi there!

What do you mean with "any IP adresses used at the VPN" ? The VPN network i want to use has also a DHCP Server which gives out a random IP in a specific range for every user. So which IP adresses should i write down in the "Exceptions" corner?
Should i write there "login.fb3.wlan" which is the hostname for the network??

how do you try to check your email? via the mail client or via a web interface?

When a VPN connection is established, you can only use netbios names (no dits in the host name)or IP addresses that are in your exceptions lists when attempting socket connections.

In every case, you're likely given an IP address in a specific range. That's the range you put down in the exceptions box.

So for instance, let's say the DHCP server assigns stuff from:

192.168.x.x

So in the exceptions box, you'd put 192.168.*

And it'll write it out like 192.168.*.*/* or something like that.

Now anytime a program tries to use an IP address in that range, it will automatically make the connection (or transmission) through the VPN.

it your at a university you must have a computer center or some sort of help deks go their and have them set your axim up to work.

I did the same thing but they wanted me to use the 120$ movian vpn client i told them no. and the created a free way to do it useing pptp and the built vpn capilites of the axim.

Your paying for the computer center use it. Demand it . Dont give up.

It cost and arm and a leg to go to a university take them for everything you can.

I thought that Movian was the only solution ... Mine 50v has a built in VPN but I couldn't get to the VPN network, that's y I thought that their network needs some sort of "Cisco friendly" client ... and the built in client in my Axim is not "Cisco friendly" ...

I have seen this problem in several threads, and this idea seems to be the most specific.
Where in the Axim do you make exceptions.

If I am trying to use IE to connect to www.google.com do I need to make exceptions?
Basicly, for the school network, I want all traffic to go over the VPN, so can I do a 0.0.0.0 exception for all traffic?

I can connect and authenticate the VPN, but as soon as I send the first bit of traffic, the VPN disconnects.

The VPN client is only designed for connecting to an office network type environment, if you need to use the VPN for internet access, I think you will need to use a proxy server on the VPN network.

Adding all ip addresses to the exception list is an interesting idea! Not sure where the exceptions are enetered on a device which doesn't run WM2003SE

I just purchased my x30high on ebay and having been playing around all day with it. At my university, the stupid IT guys (help desk) wanted me to pay $50 for the Movian software... can anybody send me a copy of it? Also, I'm gonna try tomorrow to fight to get it free tomorrow.

Thanks,
-Paul

x51v and movian 4.0?

Has anyone gotten a movian VPN client working w/ the x51v?? It seems like they don't work on WM5.0.

My school told me I needed Movian to connect to the Cisco wireless network. Are you saying that there is another way to do it aside from using Movian? If so, can you please point me to a how to?

This is now my scenario. I told the IT guys it's not fair to purchase the anthaMovian software to connect through Cisco for VPN when my x30 already has VPN capabilities. After 30 minutes of trying, the IT guy who was working with me gave up and went to his supervisor. His supervisor said there is NO WAY to connect to the wireless internet on a pda without movian.

The only thing I am able to connect to without Movian is the school's website. VPN software is free for laptops but $50 for movian on pda's... I will probably not purchase movian and lug around my heavy laptop for internet.
