Anyone tried using cell phone to cell phone wireless net access?
I thought of something a while back, when I was still using an iPaq. I had a few Nokia 5190 phones on a family share plan that let you call cell to cell for as long as you want. I bought 2 nokia data cables, and tried to setup the phones as modems and dial each other. Apparently the cables were cheap nock-offs, and didn't allow the phones to be used as modems. Some people with official Nokia cables said they got theirs to work. I just gave up after that.
But anyway, the idea was, since I have a router and a cable connection at home, I thought it would be nifty if I left one phone connected to a windows machine setup as a dial-up server, and connected the other phone to my PDA or laptop.
Anyone tried this? Seems to me to be a good alternative to spending crazy amounts of money for a calling plan that only offers x number of mb/month. This way it's unlimited data, and you still have a voice phone to use...
