Will the SDIO 56K Modem Card be any good?

I am not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this question but I will give it a try.

Basically, I am wondering if the SDIO 56K Modem Card will be any good or will it be too slow and frustrating to browse the net, getting emails, etc? I am thinking about using this thing in Europe or when travelling through the US without having to search (and pay) for a hotspot.

Also, would I be able to Skype with this slow connection or would that be impossible or too bad quality?

Here is a link to the manufacturer:

Thanks for any input...

I have used a CF modem card and it was tolerable. I have never used the card you're asking about, but Socket has a good reputation for quality products. Just make sure you check out all the reviews you can find. I would not recommend any modem card for Skype as it specifically says on the Skype website that wifi is required:

Which pda because if you can use CF, those modems are definitely cheaper than what SDIO will cost. Dunno about voip never tried that stuff.

well, I have the x30h and if I would use this particular modem, I would loose all my programs stored on my SD card.... the downside of having only one storage card slot!

Thanks, Gigi it looks like you have to have Wifi in order to operate Skype. I still think the modem card is a cool toy though since you are independend of hotspots but I guess I will wait until I am getting a PPC with two card slots - one day...

Thanks for your input guys!
