I had assumed it wouldn't make a difference but now I don't know. Also, do you have the Moto V551m? In any case, I will just leave both our settings up just in case. :)

The V551m is the Much Music edition, isn't it?

Anyway, you're right, whatever works is good enough for me.

Cingular USA with Motorola V551 and Axim 3xi

:) Thank you so much for this thread. I finally got internet access on my Dell Axim 3xi using my Motorola V551 on Cingular USA. I do have the Data Connect Plan. I called Cingular Customer Service and they acted like I was speaking a foreign language. I guess we just have to help ourselves and each other. Thanks to everyone who posted on this issue.

Where are you trying to type the extra string?
Go to connections; open up the connection for your cellphone to dell axim connection. A screen should open with the name for the connection, click next, and next and then on the page with the user name , password and domain click advanced. You will see the baud rate and a bit lower a place to type in extra string dialing commands. I have been able to input the entire command. Let me know how this goes for you.

Vodafone UK

Phone: Sony Ericsson K700i + Sony Ericsson W800i Connects me anywhere in the UK.

Dialling number: *99#
Username: - (web)
Password: - (web)
Domain: - (leave blank)
Extra dial-string command: +cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"

Were : +cgdcont= ( 1 ) if this does'nt connect you, just replace the 1 with 2, 3, 4, and so on until it works...
Then do a soft reset to save it forever...........

note:
wap.voicestream.com (for generic)
internet2.voicestream.com (for internet option users)
internet3.voicestream.com (for VPN option users)

I found this to work -- WITH an appending '+' at "CGDCONT=1". That is to say, the fifth line should look like:

Extra dial-string modem commands: +CGDCONT=1, "IP", "(see note)"

Unfortunately, I can not fit a large string into the extra modem commands and therefore am limited to just "wap" surfing. Think I will call tmobile, their website is for s%!t.

Cingular, USA

SonyEriccson s710a:

Found this over on HowardForums.com.

Special thanks to beavis4ever for the find!

Ok, I had a problem doing this too, and nobody replied. It took me a couple months to figure this out.

First pair the 2 devices.
Next go in to Settings on PDA.
Go to the Connections tab.
Double click connections and select "Add a new modem connection."
Enter a name for you connection. (ie Cingular)
Under "select a modem" pick Bluetooth Dialup Modem. Then hit next.
Enter *99***1# for your phone number and click next.
For username enter WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM and password CINGULAR1.
Then click Advanced, I changed baud rate to max 115200.
Uncheck "Wait for dial tone before dialing."
Now, the part I had to research, the init string. Enter Z&f+CGDCONT=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR" where it says Extra dial-stringmodem commands. Leave all other Tabs at default and hit OK.
Click finish and you are all setup.

Since you have a Nokia, why don't you visit the "Nokia Phone Configurator" web page? It will configure it for you. Here's the link ==> http://tinyurl.com/cpnkq
