Connected to Home Network but Can't Obtain IP Address-- Problem Solved!
Hi,
I'm a newbie here-- and can I say what a great place this is! So much great information.
I just got an x50v and have been going nuts the past few days trying to get it to connect to my home network. It would show as "connected to network" in the settings, but couldn't obtain an IP address. I searched this board but didn't find anything (apologies if I missed it and this turns out to be a duplicate post)-- but after searching the Dell customer forums, I found the below thread from 2003 that SOLVED the PROBLEM!!! I am now online and connected, woo hoo! The trick was assigning an IP address to the Axim, setting the Axim to use that address, and setting the DNS server to the default gateway address. (FYI, I also have Here for what it may be worth to anyone else having this frustrating issue is the thread from the Dell forum. I hope this helps someone and is a good contribution to this site!

CF Cards & MR814
I have Netgear MR814 router that works flawlessly with two computers that I have, but I'm having problems with it and my Dell Axim via Dell Trumobile Compact Flash card.
Specifically, I cannot obtain an IP address via DHCP on my Axim.
Could someone please help?
Any help would be appreciated.03-22-200301:32 AM

I had the same problem yesterday.
Two things you must do:
1 The default gateway and DNS IP MUST have the same address number
2 Make sure the PDA encryption setting is the same as the setting at the router.
I guarenty you it will work03-26-200308:12 PM

I have the same problem as "serend". When you said that the Default gateway and DNS have to be the same did you mean the same number on the Axim or the same number as on the MR814 router?
I'd appreciate any assistance as I'm going nuts trying to get it to work. I don't have any problems connected via a wireless laptop or wired desktop!
Thanks

I finally have a solution but for some reason I'm having a hard time getting it posted - maybe I'm so excited that I'm hitting the wrong keys! Grrr...
Solution:
1. Assign a specific IP to your Trumobile 1180 card through the MR814 router. Record this and the DNS numbers (2 sets).
2. On the Axim...Start-Settings-Connections-Connections - select WORK for all - modify the first WORK and select proxy server and this network connects to the internet.
3. Start-Settings-Connections-Network adapters - select USE SPECIFIC IP ADDRESS, key the IP address you assigned earlier, key in 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask and 192.168.0.1 for the default gateway. Under NAME SERVERS, key in the two DNS numbers (DNS and alt DNS).
4. Start-Programs-Dell Client - select Edit Wireless Profiles on the bottom of the screen - keep the default profile, tap edit, scan for your network, key in your encryption keys if applicable and keep the power management to the off setting for the time being.
Your router can show you attached devices - see if your card is recognized.
Good luck.
