instead of paying for a surcharge for data xfer

couldnt you simply get either a free dialup account or

a cheap rates (eg $3mth unlimited).

im thinking of aquiring the nokia 6620 and once paired

with the x30h im hoping to get my mail trough it.

just thinking about options...

any comments welcome

Theoretically, yes. But the wireless carriers can block you from making data calls and some have this functionality disabled by default.

In addition - you'll never get more than 9.6k.

Does the 6620 have a built in modem?

no i dont think it does have a modem,

my understanding of this concept (could be wrong) was to use

the dialup function of the pda.

and yes i realise the speed is slow, but for my need of

plain text email , i thought it would sufficient.

Actually I did some quick digging and I think it DOES have a modem. I used to do something similar a few years ago with a phone that had a modem and IR. I'd just point the PDA at the phone and use that to dial out. Worked quite well.

Some carriers charge on data calls to outside isp's, I know sprint charges $.40/min for data calls to isp's. Tough its free if you connect through them, go figure...

although, no one likes the extra charges,

it is still cheaper for me to go that way,

as my cell phone carrier charges $25 cdn/$ 20 usd for 3 meg worth

of data per month.

and that tells me this network isnt ready for prime times,

that is designed for corporations with large pockets and not

for the casual users...

regardless, i wanted to thank you for your input,

much appreciated.
