DLink DCF-660W vs. Ambicom WL1100C-CF

Just my opionion now that I have used both WiFi cards.

I origianlly bought the DLink b/c of the size and I have a DLink Router. It seemed to work OK. It connected at home fine, then I brought it to work and I could NEVER get it to connect to my Linksys router. Went to another building in my company and it connected to that Linksys router. One thing, everytime I changed networks (buildings) i had to scan for the connection and then pull card out and put it back in.

Fortunaly I dropped my Ax and the cover of the DLink WiFi card broke off. I turned on the Ax and everything including the card worked. But after reading another post on this subject I thought this would be a great opportunity to buy a new Ambicom.

Bought the Abmicom for the same price as the DLink. Put it in my Ax, installed software, had to take it out and put it back in the first time and haven't taken it out yet. Works werever I go right when I turn on the Ax. IT'S GREAT!!!.

Also, the DLink is much bigger and the Ambicom fits real snug in the slot, so when I have to pull it out of my inside pocket I can grap it my the card and not have to worry about my Ax falling to the ground.

Not sure if it is because I am now in love with the Ambicom but it does seem to be faster than the DLink (to me anyway).

The only thing I will give the Dlink card is that the updated driver and software is better than the Ambicom software. The date on the Ambicom driver is Feb 2003, but really it hasn't been updated in over one year.

Yeah, I've got the Ambicom card too. I was trying to decide between them all since they're basically all the same. CompUSA had it for 60 - 30 mail in rebate = 30 bucks... Can't beat that, and I couldn't be happier. Just a suggestion for you cparks, if you use several different access points, this could be a very handy utility for you.

I use it all the time, I never have to configure anything manually when associating with different wireless networks...

Did you ever manage to get that to work with the Ambicom drivers, or do you have to resort to the Prism drivers. I don't like the Prism driver 'cause there's no powersave mode.

I have the Ambicom.

I originally used the Prism drivers and all was fine. Then I saw that Ambicom had powersaver and decided to try that. I did and WinC and PocketWarrior would not recognize the card. I went back to the Prism. I also wish Prism has powersaving features.

I opted for the Prism since it was supported by WinC and PocketWarrior, two apps I really want to have when I need it.
