Home Network Axim File Sharing
My home network consists of 5 pc's connected with twisted pair, a Linksys router/switch to share my cable broadband pipe and a wireless access point to talk to my laptop and now, my new Axim. The wireless with the Axim works fine as far as connecting to the Internet and Email. But I can't seem to figure how to set up file sharing with the Axim. I want to be able to see and access the files on my various PC's from the Axim and visa-versa. Any have step-by-step dummy type directions??

Ted,
I've read elsewhere on this site that you can simply type the location of shares in somewhere but I installed PocketLAN and, while it's not the most user-friendly software, it didn't take me too long to figure it out and I can easily find any shares on my home or work networks.
I don't think it's freeware but I also don't think it was that expensive. Search on Handango and if you don't find it there, post another message and I'll see if I can rediscover where I got it. In the meanwhile, I'm sure other people will give you additional suggestions so if there is a trial download, I'd probably do that before buying.
Note added in edit: cageyjames and I posted simultaneously - well, ok, he beat me. :D

Or you could use Total Commander, available free in the download section of the site.

You can actually use the Pocket PC File Explorer
If the graphic does not show, click here.
Make sure that you share the directories you want on the desktop. If you are running Windows XP, click on that network and verify the the Windows XP firewall is unchecked.

Well I purchased Resco Explorer 2003 and installed it. Am not at home to try the wireless connection to the home network yet, but I will give a try in about 1 hour.....

not to be smart, but i hope youre not trying to do that through active sync, i believe you need a cf ethernet card of some nature.

Wireless will work just as well (well, ALMOST as well - it's a little slower than current ethernet) as ethernet for making network connections.

After a few head scratches, I figured out how to connect to my network PC's using the Resco Explorer 2003 software. Works great. Tried to play some of the MP3's stored on another computer, but, using WMP, they studder too much. Will experiment.
Was going to try to play some of the AVI files I have stored on another hard drive, but found I don't seem to have a player on the Axim. Any suggestions??

Yea the days of printed manuals would come in handy from time to time. Heck, I'd even take a PDF file. ;)

Try Pocket MVP. It plays quite a few media file types nicely

Try PocketMVP.
I intitially said it was streaming that was WMP problem. I was wrong. I dont think that is the case, just a larger cache or a cache of some size for that matter.
I dont know It just works w/o stuttering.

I am still getting stuttering with pocketmvp....did you change any settings to get mp3's or vid files to stream across your network?

No, you may want to check the PocketMVP settings and make the cache larger. I expect movies would need a larger cache. I havent run movies on the PMVP yet. Also check to see if anything else is running in the back ground.
I can actually play MP3 via PMVP and play Diamond Mine at the same time. Now that's entertainment!

Also try something called "withMP3" If you are still getting stuttering, then it is probably because your WiFi card is in "powersave" mode, and the card has cr*ppy drivers. Eventually someone will get their head out of their *ss and fix the drivers. Take it out of powersave mode and your problem should go away. Finally, if that doesn't work, try setting your processor speed to "normal" instead of "auto."
