What options are do I have for remote internet service. I don't mean sitting on the couch remote, I mean access anywhere.

If you want access anywhere, the only way you can get that is by tethering your Axim to a cell phone (either with a cable or wirelessly e.g., BT). Depending on your cell phone plan, you can either access the Internet via a data plan or use your plan minutes to dialup to an ISP.

You did not specify which model Axim you have/are considering, etc. If you get a model with CF, then you can also get a CF GSM/GPRS card.
