The right phone from T-Mobile

I'm getting ready to upgrade phones from T-mobile. I'd like to get a phone that I can connect to my dial-up via infrared. I live in Orlando. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks for any help!

I have the T68i and love it. Has both Infrared and Bluetooth capabilities built in. You can get a bluetooth card for your Ax which is probably a better option that trying to connect via IR.

The t68i isn't offered anymore--I saw it on your previous posts on this subject. I need this phone to be pretty affordable, but unfortunately, Tmobile's upgrade program is almost a practical joke--they'll give you money towards the price of a new phone (after they double the retail price of the phone.)

I'm looking at the sony/eriksson t300. Some t-mobile sites say that it has infrared.

I know that bluetooth would be faster, but I can't afford it.

Well I would also go with a T68i...you can get one off of eBay for a reasonable price. If it's not a T-Mobile T68i..make sure that the phone is fully unlocked so that you can use it with almost any provider (at&t, cingular, etc) as I do. The bluetooth comes in handy as it is a more solid connection than IR.

You could always use a www.gomadic.com cord to connect the phone and axim...giving you the fastest wireless speeds available.

I use t-mobile and have a motorola t720i and the gomadic cord with no problems to speak of accessing the net.

I have a Motorola Timeport 280. Just got it new off of e-bay ($80), as Motorola doesn't make them anymore. I didn't want some expensive color phone, as I just wanted IR data modem capabilities, and I tend to be hard on them.

I will say this about the 280...my palm can use the IR, my Axim cannot...gets connect errors....motorola has been claiming to be working on it for a year....so I'll be getting the Gomadic cable for it.

Yes, the Sony-Ericsson t300 has IR. I just didn't like it.

Newbie here. I picked up a T68i off of eBay a couple of months ago to replace my aging but broken T28. Great phone with a ton of features. I've heard of reception problems and other small things with the T68i but it was well worth the $150 I paid for it. If you are with T-Mobile I highly suggest looking on eBay before buying an upgrade phone from them. I tried to do the same thing about 3 months ago and they wanted over $300 for a T68 and that was with me renewing my contract. I almost picked up another T68i off of eBay the other day that was almost brand new (guy had to switch to AT&T because of work) and came with a keyboard and a Bluetooth USB Dongle. Didn't sell at $150, wish I would have picked it up.

Other than that, IR works great with my Axim and I plan on getting a Bluetooth CF Card as soon as I can.

I used to have a Timeport P280 phone before my T68i. It is a great phone excluding the IR problem. What I did to get around that was send it to Motorola for a firmware upgrade. After that the phone worked fine with my Palm as well as my Ipaq (which died a horrbile death and gave me a chance to get an Axim). It may or may not work with the axim after the firmware upgrade...but you will notice an improvement in reception, menu speeds, and IR range. Contact Motorola regarding this...see if they still offer the upgrade...it was Free

I am trying to decide on best way to get connected with my AXIM and after reading these posts, would love it if someone could clarify some questions.

I have the Motorola Timeport P280 but replaced it recently with the V60. Since both phones use a SIM card, I can swap between phones, but find that a painful and time wasting process in order to do a quick check for email.

When I had my Cassiopeia, I had a cable and CF card from Socket that connected to my Timeport and P280 for wireless connectivity. Now that I have my Axim, I was considering buying the Gomadic Cable to fit to my V60. Reading these posts, I now see another option which would be Blue Tooth.

Does anyone have a source that could clearly define the options and the benefits/downsides of each one before I plunk down more money for stuff that winds up sitting in my tech junk drawer?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can anybody tell me the cost and quality of T-Mobile's internet service? I am a current T-Mobile customer dying to bring my Axim online, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a limited service. Any reviews would be helpful.

I had T Mobile when I connected my Casio as I mentioned in my message above. You simply use your cell phone minutes when you are connected so this comes off your monthly minutes allowed. It worked well, and didn't use too many minutes when I was checking email.

They also have an option for different rates to download data if you want to be browsing the web with either your web enabled phone or your Axim I suppose. The cost of that all depends on how long you intend to be on the internet with your Axim.

Hope this helps. Do you have any advice on how the Gomadic cable gets set up with the TMobile service?

I've been using Ericsson T39 w/ T-Mobile service. It has both IR & Bluetooth connectivity. I used to surf the internet & check my emails via GPRS but I got poor with their high priced T-Zone, now I'm surfing the internet via their CSD on weekend since it's free (unlimited weekend calls), sometime I'm using my MSN dial-up account to access.

GREAT! Could you describe the process and the setup for me - thanks for your help. I have a Motorola V60 but the set up on the AXIM should be the same - right?
