Question Which Wi-Fi Card is best for Axim?

Hi All,
Another proud Axim owner looking forward to go wireless. I have a linksys wireless router at home and probably netgear at work. I know Socket will be the best but I am looking for something in a lower price range. I will appreciate if you guys can share your experiences with various wi-fi cards you own or have tested.

TIA
Gulshan

I think that they for the most part all are good cards. I think the Socket may be the best since it has was reviews have status as excellent power savings features.

I personally have the Ambicom and it works fantastic for me. I think that many people also have other brands and works fine.

I have not read any one specific brand is a constant problem. I think that some may not work as well as others with specific type of equipment (access points). Yeah I know that they are all supposed to be at a standard but some just may not be happy.

I have read that the Dell Mobile (PCMCIA only I think) doesn't work well with some equipment since the drivers don't allow a setting that some users use for security. I think it was using a different length preamble or something similar.

Just try a card, if it doesn't work, exchange it with a different brand. IMHO start with the cheapest unless you want extreme power savings features then get the Socket brand.

I bought the Ambicom, only because it was a great deal at CompUSA, but I couldn't be happier with it. Although I have nothing else to compare to it.... It gets the job done and it works with PocketWarrior.

The only thing you need to consider when you're purchasing one is the size. A few brands cover the headphone jack, and some of them are just very bulky. Other than that, most of the innards are the same...

I'm not going to vote since I only have experience with one card - the SMC EZ Connect. It works great as far as connectivity (reception is peaked out everywhere in my home) and, with the Prism drivers, can be used with pocketwarrior or WiNc. I had no problem with the setup and security features.

On the other hand, it's spec sheets suggests that it's a power hog compared with many CF cards but for my personal situation, I use my Ax in an area where I can have it plugged into the power cord most of the time so this hasn't been an issue.

Mad Can't send emails with WCF12

I checked out the WCF12 by linksys and it worked fine out of the box and was easy to setup but I cant send emails using my verizon email account (I can receive very well). The speed is pretty low for a 11MBps bandwidth network. And its a battery hog, brought down the charge to 65% within an hour.

Anyone has any ideas why it can't send emails?

I'm using the Linksys WCF12, and it's working fine for me great ranges, no regrets whatsoever.

As for power consumption: I am getting well over 2 hours out of my Axim's standard battery with the WCF12 in use - and there is still enough juice left to run with, which isn't too shabby, so no complaints there either.

The Axim's reporting of remaining charge (at least on my unit) does not seem to always be accurate - I have seen jumps of up to 18% between uses. This is more true on the bottom end of the remaining charge scale by my experiences.

I went with Netgear since my wireless network is all netgear.
I liked the netgear router since it allowed me to do mac address security.

Sleep works with activesync but not with wireless card!

POP = incoming.verizon.net
SMTP = outgoing.verizon.net
DOMAIN = verizon.net

I even tried "my outgoing server needs authentication" with no help. It works fine with active sync but not with wireless card.

All Ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Love my Socket. Expensive but worth it for its small form factor and power saving capabilities.

I had the Dell TrueMobile, but returned it because althought ity has very small form factor, but its range is very limited. Now I have Netgear, which is bulkier but has great range. Also Netgear software is much more advanced than Truemobile.
