Question real internet access

Does any one have any info on a card for the Ax that will allow you to really access the internet. I'm not talking about wi-fi, I'm talking about connecting to one of the national services that will allow you to connect anywhere (such as the palm's do with the palm network)? I know that I can use a modem, but what I want is wireless access ANYWHERE.

Sounds like you want a CF modem card. There are a lot of them (search google for CF and modem, you'll get plenty of hits). They allow you to plug in a phone cord and dial out to your ISP.

(P.S. those of us with broadband and using WiFi think we are 'really accessing' the internet. We're about 200 times faster than you'll be able to do with the fastest modem available.)

Sprint sells a CF card modem that will allow you to access their high-speed network internet access. Unlimited access will be about 120.00 per month
Check it out at
http://www.sprintpcs.com

The compactflash modem is fine if you want to be plugged into a phone jack and don't mind the slooooooow speed. You'll also want to have an 800 number or else you may have to find local dial-up access whenever you travel out of town.

A cheaper solution can be a Axim to Mobile Phone cable. Gomadic has some and you can read a review here.

GSM CF Card

I've been looking into this also and have found that none of the big gsm carriers sell a cf card. I did find this third party solution that will get you going on t-mobile or at&t gprs network. I haven't gotten one yet so I can't say how good it is.

Sprint has left a bad taste in my mouth the two separate times I've had service with them (voice service that is). They may be better now that they have the new 3g network out.

GPRS CF Card

If you get one, post a review. I'd like to know how it works out.
