Cool Need wifi network, simple and easy

I have an X30(non-wireless)and know of a wifi card I can plug into the SD slot. What's the best way to get wirelessly online?I have dial-up and it seems everything takes DSL or cable or something else.I just need to get online around my house.

There are a few ways to go about doing it. The easiest is to buy a wifi modem. They are about $150-$200 I think, and I've only seen one brand.

More complicated, but cheaper methods include putting a network card in your PC if it doesn't have one, and using a crossover (crossover may not be necessary though) cable into a wifi router, and setting the dial up connection as shared (not 100% that is possible, but should theoretically work). Another method would be to try a Ad-hoc connection by using a wifi dongle on the PC, or by using a bluetooth activesync session and a bluetooth dongle (but then you need a BT adapter).

Anywho, getting wifi on dial-up is a royal pain, and there is a chance all the workarounds and different cards and adapters not working right, and then you are out a pretty penny.

IMHO, if it's possible in your area, seriously consider cable or DSL. There are some really good deals going on, and they are only getting better. Last I saw, I think it was SBC offering DSL for $15 per month for the first 6 months.

Yep, here it is, doesn't say how long, may only be 3 months.

geez,

the wifi router/modem , to me is unnecessity.

since you can only have dial-up.

the major caveat as i see it, will be the need for a strongh wifi signal.

in theory a usb wifi installed on the pc with ad-hoc/ics

setup is all you need. but it wont give the range

to surf around the house. unless your willing

to do a litle "do it yourself" project.

visit this page here

i have done the chinese parabolic cookware fer mah sista about $10 usd (without the cost of usb_wifi key)

which gave her an increase of 15db, if you go to your local

pc store you'd have to pay $50 usd fer such a booster.

plus i dont know your needs as far the surfing goes,

you may consider having no wifi, but instead surf on the

pda offline, meanning you'll use Plucker and vade-mecum,

on your pc to download web sites of interests and auto_format

fer pda viewing. this setup is far more effective , specially on dial-up. the pda will update itself (web pages) wif active synch..

but your mileages may vary

not a problem its just more $$$'s for a wifi router

or an all in one dialup_modem/wifi_router.to me it was a blatant overkill

like putting a 1.1 liter engine in your pickup ...

meaning the speed of dialup is what 48000k on a good connection.

and wifi is in the megabytes instead of kilobytes.

with a wifi router running the dhcp, youd be all set.

in theory

What'd you get? Or did you just lose all internet? Surfing the web at the local library? Tired of question marks?
