This city is a lot more connected than I gave it credit for.

In driving around at lunch today, and on the home, Wififofum detected 26 + 11 = 37 different networks (12 minute commute home). And, depending where I am in the house, it detects FOUR in the vicinity (three of which have 'off' indicated for WEP) . . .

The RSSI value that Wififofum gives me - the networks above rated in the -60 to -70 range - what's a good value ??? What's a crappy value ??? Is a lower number better ??? A higher number ???

"OFF" for WEP does not indicate that their network is wide open. You'll notice that quite a few have their MAC/IP filters running but they don't bother having their WEP enabled.

The higher number is better. So -30 is better than -70. The actual "crap" value varies by device and sensitivity but I find that better than -60 is fine. -60 and below and it's choppy.

And WPA-PSK will show up as WEP off won't it?
