I totally dig this app... very cool... me and a co-worker use it in our office building.... so far, just playing around, but i'm sure it'll have some "work related" uses in the future.

Would it be possible to do the same thing thru MSN Messanger? I've been having fun with M$ Portrait. You can set the mic to always on and talk away. Really cool app and its FREE.

Anyone else have this problem??

I goto the Portrait website and successfully download the pc and ppc files. Problem is when i try and run/open the files (they were saved as zip) it says that it is corrupted. Aren't they supposed to be .exe files. (it actually says .exe.zip as the extension, and since it always goes with the last one it states, its zip). I'm running win xp home and downloaded with netscape ...6? whatever the up to date one is

thanks

Here's another option that I use. There is a free version (x-lite) and a pay version (x-pro) for BOTH the pocketPC and the desktop.

Question

Okay, I am slightly confused on this whole issue, is there anyway to set this up with an adhoc network, say... Toshiba PocketPC to Axim??? I am also unsure about how you set up an adhoc network. If anyone could help it would be greatly apreceated. Thanx in advanced

portrait works IP to IP so I would think it would work. Not sure. I talk to my desktop a lot.

Wow I got it working, PC to Pocket PC. My PC has a webcam so I could see what the webcam on my pc was seeing from my Axim!!! Wow!!! This is awesome! I am so glad I got a wifi card for my axim. If I setup an adhoc network with another Pocket PC, and give myself and him a seperate specified ip adress, we should be able to get it work. I will post whether it works or not.

Not Working

I am having a major audio problem with my axim and portrait. The call connects just fine, then when I try to talk using the axim I either hear cracking noises or no noise at all from my computer.

My microphone is working fine, and I tested over Bluetooth connection and gave me the same problem. I also tried all audio settings without luck.

If any of you guys have had this issue before please tell me.

Thanx!

My HP 4155 works great with portrait. My son's X3i exhibits the microphone problem described previously. I wonder if there is a mic/recording problem with portrait on the X3i?

Does this require you to dial into a SIP server? (Like a SIP server run by MSFT).

We use them point to point either ad hoc or via our wireless network. We have not used them through a SIP server yet.

i can't get the video to work on my ppc. The audio works fine, and i can see the video from my webcam on my pc, but my axim just isn't seeing it. How do you get this to work?

Otherwise, looks cool. I'll have to give this program to friends at school so we can talk ad-hoc mode. (Cellphones aren't allowed, but PDA's are, lol)

forget that last post. I just switched it to remote in my axim and now it is working. The frame rate was too high too. Pretty cool! My own semi-video phone!
