Gomadic / Sprint PCS Stupid Question...

This is probably a stupid question but here goes, I have the gomadic cable hooked up to my Sprint PCS Vision enabled LG 5350 cell phone and my axim (i also have the serial one for my laptop which works well too, only 9.95!) Anyway, heres my question, I have been dialing that fancy #777 to get into the wireless network but I have been doing it locally here in atlanta. I am going up to the beale street music festival in memphis this weekend and I want to take my Ax with me. When I dial that #777 in or on the way to Memphis, will it be a long distance call? Even though its not a call?

Thanks for the help,
Jason

Can't answer your question but I do have a question for you...

Sprint seems to not encourage this use of the pcs vision plan where I live, as in they don't tell me about it!

Do you actually get to use the vision network and get fairly high speed access through your phone and onto your pda? Did Sprint tell you you could do this and/or do they know you are doing this?

I would hate to get a one year contract and have sprint somehow disable my ability to do this... Thanks!!!

I have talked with Sprint reps on atleast 3 seperate occasions and explained to them, in great detail, what I have and what I am doing to make sure I am not going to be charged for it. Here is what I am lead to believe. If you have a Sprint PCS plain with Vision, then you can use your Gomadic cable unlimited and it is completely free, doesn't even count as minutes. You are only charged if you download Sprints crap (games, screensavers, ringers.) The three people I talked to told me point black what I am doing is completely ok and is of no extra charge (included with my Vision Plan) as far as the speed goes,
As long as I have a strong signal, the speed is great. Better than you would expect. In my house, with a weak signal, It is very slow. For the ease of use and relatively low cost (the cables cost me $56 because I added the serial connector for my laptop, which works well too. Wireless internet from my laptop is nice to have when Im at school.

Hope this helps,
Jason

Also, you can only do this with the LG 5350 (bc it is usb and serial conncetion), all other vision phones are usb,
the Gomadic rep told me in testing it connected at 56 to 100 kbs,
Keith
