Exclamation Enabling Wifi hang my PPC - The Solution !

Now this is strange.
My X50V works fine when I'm 'away' and connecting to Hot Spots.
At home I don't have a router so I created an Ad-hoc connection
between my desktop PC and my Axim.
I can establish the connection and everything works fine with one exception ..

If the desktop Wifi card is already enabled and the X50V Wifi is turn on, the X50V freeze. Only soft reset will recover it.
If the desktop Wifi card is disable and the Axim Wifi is turn on every thing is fine, then enabling the desktop wifi card establish the connection.

So what we have here is a situation that makes it impossible to
enable the Axim wifi when another card is allready transmitting.
Again, I'm connecting to hot-spot with no problem.

Setup:
static ip ( both cards )
Network authentication : shared ( tried open, same results )
Data encryption : WEP
Network key : set ( not automatically )

What am I doing wrong ?

That's bizarre.

I would consider a full backup, hard reset, DON'T restore, then repeat the experiment. See if the problem is repeatable after a hard reset on a "clean" system.

Well, of course it works after HR but I need to find the 'trouble maker'.

I suspect in one of this 2 software :

Hebrew support that I must have on my PPC
SPB pocket plus ( currently version 2.5 ).

Update : [U]
So I run some tests before HR and I got to this conclusion:
if the Axim doesn't know about the ad-hoc network
( a new one for example ) there is no problem with the wifi enable process.
If the Axim has information about the network ( key for example )the wifi enable process freeze the Axim.

Tried different setups with no authentication key
But couldn't fix the problem.

Yesterday I had no problem connecting several times to the same hot-spot ( enabling and disabling wifi a couple of times ) so I guess it's something that regards to an Ad-hoc setup or something that I'm doing wrog.

Any thoughts ?

I have heard that a certain versions of the localization software [I hope you're using Eyron ] had caused WiFi freezing, but this issue was known only on HP handhelds. You write that you're using v.4 of the localization software. I suggest to upgrade to a ater version - my Axim runs 4.5.91 with no issues whatsoever. The latest ver. is 92 though. Do check your setting, try reading the wifi guide here or a hebrew version here:

also try asking some guys at hebrew forums:

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
The Hebrew causes the problem I'm 100% sure.
Just removed it and everything works fine.
I'm using the Eyron latest version 4.5.92.
I'll read the links that you sent me maybe I'll find a fix.
Say, Can I use ver 4.5.91 with my register.heb file ?

Thanks
Lior

Thanks,
Lior

At last , the Solution...
After a week of searching for the reason for the behavior described above,
I think I found the problem. I came to the conclusion that the problem relates to the network channel that in use.
I found a utility that allows me to set\force the Network channel in the configuration process.
Any channel other then 1 works fine !!! PPC does not hang when the WiFi driver is loaded.
Weird but I guess the localize support is somehow relates to the channel that the network is using since after HR and no localized version of Hebrew there is no problem to run a network using channel 1.
So now I run channel 2.
Life is so cool :approve: :approve: :approve:
