Sprint PCS Connection cards

I have been researching the different ways to set up wireless internet connectivity with my Axim. I have a Sprint account now but a non-Bluetooth enabled phone. So instead of a new phone plus a Bluethooth card, I'm considering buying one of the SprintPCS connection cards ($179). These are basically Type-II cards with antennas, that serve as essentially wireless modems. Obviously you have to have a Sprint account to use one, but I'm wondering what I'm missing here. Why bother with using a Bluetooth card PLUS enabled phone when you can have one device for both?

My guess would be the cost (monthly). If you can manage to setup your Axim to work using a Sprint phone's internet connection, it won't cost you any more money than you are already spending. Sprint has some pretty decent rates on unlimited Internet from the phone. However, if you get one of the PCS Connection cards, you have to buy a data plan just for that card, and they aren't cheap.

I wish I could hook the Axim to my N400, but so far I haven't found a cable. I really wanted one of those CF cards until I found out how much the plans were.

After talking to a very confused sales associate, it seems that in order to get internet service on a laptop or PDA, they want you to buy the card and pay 100 a month for internet!

However, I know that it is possible to use pcs vision by getting the data cable to go from a phone to laptop/pda which would not incur any additional monthly fees... He did not mention this.

Can Sprint tell or block the use of the phones internet connection on a laptop?

I would hate to buy a 1 year contract and then be forced to only have internet on my phone after Sprint disables the ability to use the phone as a high speed modem!

In years past, I used a Sprint phone with my laptop and a data cable for wireless modem. No problems with Sprint and no problems with the charges (it was $10 a month for the wireless web option). However, the connection speeds leave much to be desired (14.4 kbs max, if I recall correctly). The newer Sprint PCS Vision is a different animal and I'm not sure how to connect to that without a connection card.

Check it out! I found it! I was just about to give up and buy a PCMCIA adapter and a PCMCIA to USB card, (I connect my N400 to my laptop via USB - also purchased at The Supply Net) when I found the following:
http://www.thesupplynet.com/productD...fm?prodID=7001
It won't be shipping until the 21st, but that's the only thing I've seen yet. By the way, Sprint doesn't charge me to connect my laptop via my N400, on the Vision plan.

I have been using a Sprint card on my laptop and my Axim for a few months. I paid $199 for the CF card with PCMCIA sled for laptops and $20/mo for 10 megs data.

Go Gomadic

What you need to do is purchase a cable from Gomadic and then sign up for the Sprint PCS Unlimited Vision plan for $15 a month.
