Help needed setting up wireless router as AP - wired network

Hi, I've just received my Linksys WRT54G router, which seems to be working fine.

Im trying to setup the router as an AP. My current network setup is as follows:

A computer acting as server. Contains PCI Adsl Modem connected to 2mb DSL line. 2 Network cards. 1 network card with BNC connector connecting 3 computers. This card shares the internet. The IP address is 10.0.0.1, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

The second card is a FastEthernet pci card which I have connected to the WRT54G. What I need help doing is setting up the router so it routes to 10.0.0.1, to let all wireless devices access the internet.

Sofar I've got my pda connected to the router and can retrieve the setup page for the router. The router is running on IP 192.168.1.1.

I set my second NIC on the server to 192.168.1.2 but am not really sure what it should be.

Help would be greayly appreciated.

You have two internally facing NICs, one is a BNC network on 10.0.0.0/24 with three computers and the other is a standard twisted pair connection on 192.168.1.0/24. ICS is running to share the PCI Modem with the BNC card right?

I think you need to disable ICS, bridge the BNC and TP cards together (give the TP card a 10.0.0.0/24 address) and then enabled ICS and share the modem with the bridge interface.

The router would also be given an address in the 10.0.0.0 range. Ensure that DHCP is turned off.

When you enable ICS again it might set your network back to 192.168.0.0/24 so it might be worth considering replacing the 10.0.0.0 network with 192.168.0.0.

This was how I did it.

Set my TP card to 192.168.1.2 setup my router to IP 10.0.0.10. Then setup my TP card to 10.0.0.8.

I then bridged the BNC NIC with the TP NIC and it worked. (Win XP)

A temporary fix, as when another Fast Ethernet PCI card arrives im moving the router to a win 2000 server. And win 2000 doesnt allow software bridging.

Your explantation should work I hope. :)

Just as a matter of interest. How would I go about setting up another AP which isnt wired. Im considering getting another AP to give greater range.

Hrmpfth, My NIC arrived for the Win2k comp. I setup the TP NIC on IP 10.0.0.7 and the Wireless Router on 10.0.0.10, but when its on it stops the Legacy NIC working properly. How can I go about it in Win2k, WinXP is easy because it has software bridging.
