Ad-hoc sharing?

Hiya,

I was out with a fellow axim owner recently and was trying to send over some files to him, of course IR is pretty slow, so we setup a quick ad-hoc wireless network. Then we couldn't figure out how to send the file. We couldn't browse each others Axims and we couldn't figure out how to share anything. Am I missing something? There has to be either a built in way, or a program to allow this. I've done some searching and haven't found out anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

No takers

C'mon I cannot be the only one who has wanted to do this. Is there no way to transfer files between axims other than IR or card swapping? Is there even any type of FTP server that will run on the Ax?:rolling:

At about $70 that is an expensive solution! I would also love to find an easy way to transfer files wirelessly (other than IR that is...) with another PocketPC owner.

Well I d/led the demo, we'll see how it goes, but darn! $70 bucks for something that probably should be built in is tough. Maybe have to write something up myself.

Something like Pickpocket would work OK only if you have access to an internet connection. What I am talking about would be a way to transfer files from PocketPC-to-PocketPC using a wireless connection between the two units. That is, without an internet connection or an access point to connect to. I envision two people with PocketPCs sitting in the same general vicinity establishing a wireless connection between the 2 units (e.g., ad hoc mode) and then having the ability to send files or messages to each other. IR can do something like this in a limited way, but you need close proximity and line-of-sight to get it to work. IR is also slower than an 802.11x connection would be.

I am rather surprised that such an ability is not already a common feature of wireless connections, since it seems so appealing and useful...!

I haven't played with the Ad-Hoc stuff yet but I was thinking you might be able to use PickPocket as long as both Ax's had a private IP address within the same subnet. Then you could just enter the IP address in your browser to hit the server on the other Ax?

I started up a new thread in the General Axim Talk forum called "File Transfers on PPCs?" (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...threadid=10697) to try to get some additional discussion going on this topic.
