Memory usage?

Is there any reason my axim is consuming so much memory? Right now, with no programs running and nothing special (I use the plain desktop without any enhancements such as wisbar) I have 10.98 of free memory on the storage side and 10.94 mb on the program side. Shouldn't it be up to around 25 mb or so for programs at least?

Is there tips, tricks or guides for optimizing memory usage or a better way of finding out what's using the rest of my memory? There's 25.82 mb in use on the storage side and 14.01 mb in use on the program side.

Look at View MyPDA section under my avatar I have a link to a software named Where is my RAM. Copy the file to your PPC and run it. It will give you information about where it is used. Also if you browse teh internet a lot it uses some of your memory. Or can also do a soft reset and see if it frees some memory.

striketh,

The reason is that you installed software in Main Memory. You have almost 26MB allocated for storage. I have 6.12MB - a 20MB difference. And I have a lot of stuff installed - in the BIS.

As for tips, Frenchy gave you good ones. In addition to that I would search this forum for posts of user 'Menneisyys' who has written some very good articles on the matter. Generally speaking, find out what you have installed on your PDA, check for the latest versions of those programs you actually use. Those latest versions are more likely to be installable in BIS. Then uninstall the programs which now eat your storage RAM and re-install the ones you really want into the BIS. Read Menneisyys' tutorials as they will show further optimizations. Software like SKTools, MemMaid, Tweaks2k2 help clean and relocate the Internet Explorer cache.

Yep, there are some good tutorials around here to help you better manage your memory. Like the others said, don't install stuff to Main Memory and get something like MemMaid to help keep the temp files and stuff all cleaned up. Good Luck~

Thanks. I already have memmaid and have relocated my PIE temp files. I only installed a couple apps to main memory but I guess the impact was a lot worse than I thought. Most are in BIS. I'll see about reinstalling everything to BIS.

Also take a look at your 'My Documents' folder, it doesn't take all that many PDF's, Word & Excel files, TSK files and other assorted junk to eat up a lot of memory.

Yeah, I install most everything to a memory card and I clean the temp files up almost once a day. Good Luck~
