assigning buttons in wmp10

i want to assign the email hardware button for toggle screen in wmp10, since holding the power button to dim the screen takes too long. Outside of wmp10, the email button is assigned to landscape/portrait switch.

I open options and go to buttons, and it says "press button to assign", so I press the email button, and i get landscape mode. OK, maybe i should assign it first, so I go to settings->buttons and set the email button to <none>.

back to wmp10, and I try assigning again, and nothing happens.

does the assign button feature in wmp10 even work or is something wrong w/ my machine

Only the "Up", "Down", "Left", "Right", "Center" can be re-assigned.
