How do I search my Axim for files by name??

The "Find" utility only appears to search Outlook stuff.
There's got to be a way to search for files in Built-in-Memory and on the Storage Card, right?

All I want to do is search my Axim like I can on a real PC.

Thanks,
Mike

That has always worked for me to find files...
It does also search PIM data, but it should search files too.

I use the Resco File Explorer to search for files. It provides full wild card support for file names.

Thanks, but please walk me through. I must be missing something!

From Desktop tap START
Tap FILE EXPLORER
From MY DEVICE screen
?? - I don't see any search option

You can't search in there. That is what the Find or Search (WM5) util is for.

axzilla is saying you can look for the file yourself in the File Explorer.

Go into Find, enter what you want to search for. Make sure it says All Data (may be something similar depending on the OS).

What makes you think it isn't searching files?
Have you tried searching for something you know is on the device? (like .tsk will show you all Today Themes)

Yes, that's it. I'm searching for known files on my SD card.
I have just discovered that the FIND utility does seem to find Excel files in main memory, but not picture files in main memory.
Nothing is found on the SD card, though.

I don't have WM5, only WM2003SE. Does that make a difference?

Thanks

I am pretty sure I could search for files with my 2003 device. I don't have it here, so I can't try it.

I gave it a try in WM5 and it finds files (like the Today Themes in my example above.)

I am able to search for a keyword (this is in WM5) and it found items on my main, SD, CF, and mail all with one search (with Type set to All Data).

I know what he wants, and i want it too. If you type in like iexplore.exe in find it wint find it. It does on windows pc, but not on ppc. Is there any apps out there for ppc that let you type in the file name and find it. Hopefully free.

I remembered I have a 2002 emulator on my comp here. I gave Find a try on that and it is horrible compared to the Search on WM5.

It wouldn't find any files anywhere (that weren't Excel, help, etc.).
I thought it did a better job.

Well guess you'll have to find a third party product for your 2003SE.
I like the Resco File Explorer like AKAJohnDoe suggested.

Total Commander 2.0 is free and seems to work well according to what I have read. I have never tried it.

Thanks for the responses!
I will search around.

Am I correct in remembering that I cannot upgrade my Axim X30h to WM5?

You are correct. Only the X50 can upgrade to WM5.

You can only search for data types that are included in the dropdown. Additionally, only the My Documents folder and its subfolders are searched. The Find utility is woefully lacking and you should consider using an 3rd party file explorer that includes a search/find function.
