Worried Complicated issue (dial-up to networked pc...)

I have a user here with an Axim X30. He upgraded his Axim to Mobile 2003, and since then has not been able to connect remotely to his work PC to synchronize.

He's using a Socket Bluetooth 56K Modem to dial into our RAS server. From there, he should be able to connect to his machine and sync remotely, right? It had worked previously before he upgraded to 2003.

His machine is running WinXP SP2, and Office 2003 SP2 (Outlook Exchange Server). Cached exchange mode has been turned off and he has a full partnership between the Axim and his Latitude.

We considered having him sync with the Exchange server, but this creates duplicates on his Latitude. I just finished deleting over 6K duplicate entries that were made by synching with the server.

The modem dials in to the RAS server just fine, but from there I keep getting the "Cannot start communications with the desktop computer (blah blah blah)" message.

Any ideas? Things for me to try? He's been screwing with this error for months now and is quite furious that I can't fix it for him.

can he talk to anything on your network? perhaps start with a small ping utility to see if its even talking?
