Until it is reviewed by a trused source, I wouldn't worry about these "specs". The 255 processor on the Axim is stull hobbled by a slow buss so I fail to see how any improvement in PPC could help any of us. If there is support for Xscale, it will be for newer PPCs with the faster bus. Putting a 255 in place of a 250 does not get you anymore than a small increase in speed and would not be noticable to anyone other than hypersensitive people.

They probably just STOPPED buying the 250s. My guess (again, GUESS) is that once they ran out of the 250s, they simply began putting the 255s in the current Axims. That way when it is time for the new Axims to come out (possibly with the higher bus speed?), they won't have a stock pile of 250s in the warehouse. Just my thoughts on it anyhow.

Incorrect Intel stopped manufacturing the PXA250, it has known defects in th way it caches data and explains the general slowness of the unit. Intel stopped selling the PXA250 in March, the PXA255 is a drop-in replacement for the 250, although it allows for a faster bus, it can be used in any existing unit that has a PXA250.

I have heard several reports of people crackin' them open and see they are using faster RAM chips.... so I do believe there are some changes that have been made, plus the benchmarks show there is a significant difference between the 250 and 255 aside from the bus....

Just checked mine and its running the 255 like I thought it was. I was under the impression that that 225 ran at a 200 mhz bus speed opposed to the 250's 100 mhz. If that is the case then the bus speed should make a pretty substancial difference when comparing the 250 to the 255. Apparently the current Pocket PC 2002 can't take real advantage out of the 255's 200 mhz bus speed at the time. I have heard that Pocket PC 2003 is going to be able to take advantage of the new bus speed which will really show off the difference.
Aside from bus speed, what are the differences between the 250 and the 255?

Thanks...
He did not imply that they hacked it to NOT take advantage of the 200MHz bus. His statement simply meant that in the CURRENT Dell Axim X5 models, that it cannot take advantage of a faster bus.....because the X5 does NOT have a 200MHz bus. Therefore, it was just a simple drop-in replacement for the older chips as entropy stated earlier. It shows VERY little gain in performance in the current Axims.....although with a 200MHz bus onboard a newer model in the future, I'm sure the 255 will prove to be much faster.

There is a rumor that they are in fact using the 200 mHZ bus... it just hasn't been confirmed by Dell, I tend to think they didn't increase the bus but are using faster RAM (doesn't really make a difference)....

Does any one know if there will be any incompatiblity with programs written for and running under PPC2002? When PPC2003 is released is this going to cause major problems?
