I would cal back except my dad has to tell them all this information first, and he dosent know what to tell the lady. lol so I will just wait till he is not busy and have him call back, but it looks like I get a free one!

Okay, so I've got one of the earlier X5 400MHz units. The CPU is PXA250 B2 Stepping, *NOT* a PXA250C1 or PXA255 like all of the newer units. I'm figuring that PPC 2k3 will be compatible with my 250B2, but does anyone know this for certain??
Also, and I hesitate to ask this but, is there a way to swap my unit for a newer 255 unit under warranty from Dell? Should my D-pad suddenly develop a problem, for exampe? :D

Don't they send out refurbs on warranty jobs?
I suppose they'll have a lot of the new xscale processor PDAs in with people sending them back under the 30day return for the upgrade to 2003 LOL

OK, we have been over this many times. Please don't deceive Dell on a problem just because you have an "older" processor.
Microsoft Mobile 2003 will work with any Dell Axim.

Roger that. :) Just wanted to make sure the H/W would be compatible, and whether a different route would be necessary. Thanks for the info.

Dell send out refurb for product replacement after the first 30 days anyway, so no garuntees that you would get one witht eh newer processor or 2003 on it.

I found out today that it is possible to setup an Activesync connection with the emulator. First of all you need to configure the emulator to use VirtualSwitch networking. I opened the Platform Manager from Embedded Visual C++ 4. In thsi dialog, look for the emulator settings, and then go into the startup server settings. After you configured that, use the Test button to launch the emulator. When the emulator has opened, there is a file named emuascfg in your SDK tools directory, run it with the parameter /PPC. It will setup your emulator to use Activesync. After that is done you probably need to configure the network connection settings in the emulator.

OS upgrade ordered
I called Dell today and spoke with Becky who was quite pleasant. Didn't spend too much time on hold, let's say I didn't have to listen to the whole Britney Spears song. Whew!
She looked up my customer number and determined that my Axim is within 30 days of purchase, so I qualify for the WM 2003 upgrade at no cost. Ship date is late July, but I'm certainly in no hurry. The whole PDA thing is new to me, so I'm still working on scratching the surface of its potential. Yes I have a screen protector.
Maybe by the time I get it, some of you all will have worked out the upgrade. Then I'll decide for sure if I even want to do it. Most likely of course, but I cetainly don't need to be on the bleeding edge of something as critical as the operating system.
Cheers,
Neil

where can I find?
Where can I find the link on Dell's website to order PC2003? Someone posted it here on Aximsite, but I can't seem to find it. I'd like to order online, not on the phone.
Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.

as far as I know it's still a phone only thing. I haven't heard if it's on the web yet. If it's not listed in the PDA section you will probably have to call them.

A couple of months ago, there was a new thread about it, but I can't seem to find it. I clicked on the link and it took me straight to the website at Dell, and was one click away from confirming my order, and decided not to do it at that time.
Thanks in advance.
